Dems call for Wu to resign

by NW Spotlight

After Friday’s revelation in the Oregonian that a young woman has accused him of an aggressive, unwanted sexual encounter, Rep. David Wu is again in the news as Democrats are calling for him to resign.

OPB is reporting that the Washington County Democratic Party will consider a vote of no-confidence in Congressman David Wu this week, and an update in the Oregonian is reporting that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi asked Wu to resign when she spoke with him yesterday.

I, for one hope Wu stays in. There are two outcomes to this situation.

Wu resigns, Portland elects another liberal Democrat. Not carrying Wu’s baggage the representative is more powerful than Wu.

Wu stays in. Encumbered by tiger suits and sex scandals the marginalized congressman is left to wander the halls of capital hill muttering to himself.

Personally I like the idea of a hopelessly encumbered congressman from Portland. Tends to limit the damage.

    • wnd

Rupert’s assessment smacks of common sense, albeit with Dem Congressional Reps on the wane nationally, the Wu Choo train isn’t going anywhere…’cept into retirement with boo coo benefits that many think he should be ‘discounted’ from.

Too bad, so sad…Wu wasn’t round housed by his opponent Rob Cornilles, who should be conducting business for Oregon US Dist House One.

Alas, with DEMographics apparent, this district can’t seem to get it right about whom to send to Congress…unless they see a Wong, who can perhaps, prove he’s right for their DEMain.

    • valley person

If I were a resident of his district, which I am not, I would want a better, stable, more effective representative. Since his district has many more Democrats than Republicans, this suggests his constituents would be better served by his resigning and an appointment of a more suitable Democrat.

That said, innocent until proven guilty should still matter.

      • Devin

His district does not have “many more Democrats than Republicans”, maybe a 2% voter registration in favor of democrats, but not that huge.

        • valley person

The Dems had a 50,000 voter registration edge over Republicans in the last election in Oregon’s District 1. That is about a 7% advantage. He beat Cornilles by 55-42% in a strong Republican year despite his weak record and flaky reputation, so apparently he even beat the spread with independents.

      • David Appell

I’m in Wu’s district, and have voted for him twice in the past. I won’t vote for him again. Innocent until proven guilty, sure, but there are too many allegations getting in the way of Wu possibly being effective. And too much history. He’s always been a quiet representative, which was a little frustrating but acceptable given his record…. But now too much has built up, in my opinion, and all of it can’t but be a huge distraction. He needs to resign both to provide his constituents with effective representation (especially now) and to get his personal life in order.

        • Anonymous

So, David, you are part of the problem. You admittedly voted twice for Wu, despite the fact he has never been anything but a backbencher, a totally ineffective legislator. And I suspect the only reason you voted for Wu is because he is a Democrat. You voted for Wu despite the fact he admitted to a rape in 2004. So much for the Ds feminist ethos.

And VP, the district is just a little too Democrat heavy to be called a swing district…it doesn’t have many more Democrats than Republicans. Wu gives Republicans a good chance of taking back the 1st. If we can convince enough independents that Wu is what you get when you vote Democrat, that should do it.

Okay, guys, what the hey. Drag out Vitter and Ensign. You might as well attack Dick Cheney too for good measure. After all, it is all Bush’s fault.

          • David Appell

Wu did not admit to rape in 2004.

I voted for Wu because he he supports many of the things I support. I’d do it again if I though he would do that effectively (and if he isn’t found guilty of a crime). But I no longer believe he can be effective.

          • Anonymous

Whether or not Wu admitted to rape is a matter of interpretation. My interpretation is that he admitted to raping his girlfriend. He may not have come right out and said I raped her but his words likewise never denied the rape allegations.

As to why you voted for Wu, admit it, you voted for him because he was the Democrat candidate. Even with his “little” Stanford problem and the fact that he had proved himself to be totally ineffective (a quiet representative, as you put it)…you voted for him because he was the Democrat. Your writings here have made that perfectly clear.

          • David Appell

Wu did not admit to rape. First you said it was a “fact,” and now you say it’s a “matter of interpretation.” Facts are not open to interpretation. As usual you are all over the map and only interested in throwing mud to see where it might stick.

          • Anonymous

As far as I care, it is a fact. Wu statements at the time never denied it was a rape and in FACT he admitted he had been a bad boy.

          • Founding Fathers

First it’s a fact, then it’s a matter of interpretation, then it’s a fact again.

You were for it before you were against it before you were for it. Or something like that. You’ll be able to go much farther if you take off those flip-flops.

          • David Appell

I voted for Wu because of his voting record, not because of his party affiliation. (Though there’d be nothing wrong with having done so — it’s my vote, after all.) I saw no evidence that his alleged behavior in college affected his ability to be an effective Congressman or disqualified him from office. With what’s come out in the last several months I’ve changed my mind, especially about the former, while holding judgement on the latter. Has everyone already forgotten the Dominique Strauss-Kahn episode?

          • Anonymous

Huh? Wu admitted he had behaved badly at Stanford but apparently behaving badly when an accusation of rape is on the table is okay with you. But now, you are ready to throw Wu under the bus because several members of his staff quit. I remind you, none has ever given an inkling why they quit. But for some reason you see the resignations as evidence that he cannot be an effective Congressman and they disqualify him from holding office. But on the charges of taking sexual liberties with a teen-aged girl, you will withhold judgement.

Okay, but don’t let me catch you calling yourself a feminist.

Yes, David, it is your right to throw your vote away in a partisan manner. It is my right, as someone who has crossed party lines in the voting booth, to hold my nose in the air and sniff at your partisanship.

        • valley person

Well, given the state of things, I’d still vote for him over pretty much any Republican who might come along. At least Wu votes to proper way most of the time. The evil of 2 lessers as the saying goes. But that said, I hope he resigns.

          • valley person

And I’d also like to add the fact that Wu supported offshore wind, big wave power and solar…Unlike the outdated fossil fuels that the Bushbots wanted to look for off of the Oregon coast.  Like I like to say…”Wu hoo for Wu too!”

          • Abriel

Of course you’d vote for a dead Democrat over a Republican. You’re a brain dead moron who needs to have his brains ventilated. Preferrably with a .30-06.

Oh come on, Dean would vote for an ax murderer just so long as they had a D in party affiliation. That’s not exactly a revelation. Dean is a party guy, thats all that matter to him.

As for someone calling for others to be removed because they make threats, you’re a fine one to talk!

Wu hasn’t help me that much, however Wu’s staff has been a great help and I hope they stay around.

What Republicans must point out is that Wu was re-elected despite the fact that he has been the backbencher’s backbencher for all of his 14 years in Congress. He was re-elected despite the fact that while at Stanford he was disciplined for raping his girlfriend. He was re-elected because his staff hid how totally screwed up (mentally unfiit, drug use) he is. He was re-elected for one reason, and one reason only…because he is a Democrat.

Republicans must make this point in 2012… or earlier, if that’s what it comes to. Republicans must turn out every Republican voter they possible can. But, more so, Republicans must make the case to the independents who will decide the race that what they get when they vote for Democrats is David Wu.

Any number of Republicans should have retired Wu…Goli Ameri and Rob Cornilles certainly come to mind. Wu is a walking, talking piece of crap Democrat. He deserves much more than being kicked out of Congress…he should be in jail with the other sexual perverts and rapists.

You can’t call it rape until it’s been proven in a court of law.  As president Clinton showed the world, there is more than one way to skin a cat…

      • Anonymous

Yeah, we all know Clinton never really used a cigar as a dildo on Monica. As for his man juice being found on Monica’s dress, you ever hear of immaculate conception…same idea.

I did, and will, call it rape. It was rape.

        • valley person

Wu and Clinton both have one thing in common.  They have been attacked by conservative muckrakers.  Neither one has been found guilty of anything except being liberal Democrats.

The real story shouldn’t be whether or not they’re sex fiends but whether or not they’re not…

          • Anonymous

Conservative muckrakers is your opinion. Clinton’s sperm was found on Monica’s dress. That isn’t a matter of conjecture. Wu admitted to being a bad boy at Stanford. That isn’t a matter of conjecture.

“Wu and Clinton both have one thing in common.  They have been attacked by conservative muckrakers.” That is a matter of opinion and basically, I’d say your opinion is full of… well full of it.

          • valley person

You are being taken in by the fake valley person. Someone has decided to make lame statements using my moniker. You can have a fake argument with that person if you like, but otherwise it is best to ignore the obvious.

          • Joelinpdx

How do you propose I know who the fake valley person is?

          • valley person

Well, you could try using your cognitive intelligence. The fake’s posts are too cute by half.  They make short, deliberately lame arguments and cap them with exclamation points. If you really can’t tell the difference, there is nothing I can do about it. He or she will get tired of this game eventually.

          • valley person

Oh and another thing I forgot to add is that the fake poster is obviously stupid beyond belief!  Can’t you tell how supremely intelligent my postings are?  How many times do I have to tell you guys that since I work for the state, I’m obviously a genius?  I mean just look at my PERS account!…you fools!

          • valley person

As if to prove my point.

          • cyh045

Clinton was not Impeached for sex crimes. Clinton was impeached for lying to a grand jury,

          • the real valley person

Clinton was impeached due to politics, period. He “lied”, or obfuscated, about a private, consensual sex act with another adult that was no one’s business. That Republicans thought this was a grave danger to the nation is a statement about them, not Clinton, who was basically guilty of being a horn dog, which everyone knew when he was elected.

        • David Appell

You have no idea what happened, and are only surmising from what you read in the papers. That it wasn’t prosecuted, even after the investigations that took place, shows it must not have clearly been a criminal act.

          • Anonymous

I do know that Clinton’s sperm was determined forensically to be on Monica’s dress. Now what are you alleging? That Monica’s dress was for some reason in proximity to Bill when he was having marital relations with Hillary (like that was ever happening)?

Yes, I read it in the papers. Unlike you, I have faith in what is reported in the papers and on the six o’clock news. Are you one of those people who are always referring to the lame stream media?

    • Rupert in Springfield

Don’t you get it? We want Wu! Portland isn’t going to elect a Republican. Wu is a totally compromised Democrat who cant do any damage at this stage. Even on his best day Wu is essentially a congressional paperweight. If you have to have a Democrat, and in Portland you do, Wu is exactly the kind of Democrat you want in office – Someone who can accomplish nothing other than to make his party look bad.

      • Anonymous

Yes, given my druthers, I’d druther keep Wu in office, have him win the Democrat nomination and then kick his butt in the 2012 General. But, alas, that ain’t gonna happen. Wu has apparently made the decision not to seek re-election. Even if he had run, the Ds would probably have taken him out.

That said, I think if Republicans make the point that Wu is what you get when you vote Democrat, the independents…who will decide this election in the first place…will vote Republican. Under the redistricting, the 1st is a more friendly place for Republicans anyway. Sorry we can’t say the same thing for you guys in the 4th.

At any rate, now that Wu has decided not to seek re-election it is in our best interest to have him resign (which he says he won’t do, even though Pelosi is apparently saying he should) and hold a special election to replace him. I think this way we can get a Republican elected. Keep your fingers crossed.

      • valley person

Wu doesn’t represent much of Portland Rupert. He represents 4 suburban to rural counties outside of Portland.  But then you knew that right?

        • valley person

Will Wu wike it if we weave him awone?….lol…I loooooovvvveeee it when I do clever stuff like this!

did he try to do it in a tiger suit.

    yiff yiff yiff
(I could not help my self)
On a more serious point somebody owes Goli Ameri an apology; while her campaign was poorly managed, she was right on WU chariter(I know spellig is off)

This man is a good man. He is simply giving in to his natural urges like any man might do.
We must learn to forgive. He has done so much for the little people that we can certainly forgive him for a bit of tomfoolery.
Please, remember, we are all human and we all make mistakes.
    This man is no different.
We must band together to help him retain his position and then slowly cure himself.

I have full confidence that this wack-job will continue to slide off the deep end and into the pool of total insanity.
The pressure these folks have to live with is unbearable.
    I feel his pain.

  • Anybody But Wu!  We’ve had a string of foreign losers in the 1st District.  We need real born in America citizens in Congress who are intelligent enough care what happens, with enough backbone to fire the bad guys wherever they are found.

I just got an ad from my bank offering 0.75% interest.  Do you realize how low that is?  If you work hard long enough to earn a million you can’t live off that interest unless you live in a car or camp in a forest.  Money is practically worthless NOW.  We need people who will at least try to fix things.

Some of the candidates are no better than Allen Alley. None of Oregon’s legislators have responded to my emails better than Dennis Richardson, and I live in Clatskanie. I’m saying we need fresh blood in in this office, milquetoast legislative service is no qualification.

    • the real valley person

If you worked hard enough, or were born lucky enough to have a million stashed, and you put that in a savings account paying .75% interest, then you would qualify as dumb enough to not deserve to keep it. Paid interest is at rock bottom because inflation is at rock bottom. Its math.

And if you think your money is worthless, send it to me. I’ll send you back a certificate saying you are entitled to some stash of gold somewhere.
