“imposed”??  You mean, by the voters in 1978?  What an odd way to characterize a vote by the populace.

    • Founding Fathers

When it’s something they don’t like, then it’s “imposed,” even if it’s by a vote of the people. If it’s something they like, then it’s righteous and good, even if it done by fiat. Or alfa romeo.

Re Metro’s regional govt formation:  Multnomah and Washington counties voted YES, Clackamas voted NO.
Today, the ‘imposition’ – still seen forged by crook, hook and snook – continues unchecked.  And lo, add to that chiller…gluteus to the MAX TriMet.  OMG!
Bully, indeed, for the metastasizing embodiment of regional Wooly pullin’ governmentium.   Ha!

You two need to think a little before you post.

First of all the word “imposed” is used quite often when referring to popular will, even if by vote. A tax is often “imposed” on this or that person or entity by popular vote.

“Oregonians imposed a 5 cent bottle return years ago” would hardly be considered an odd statement by anyone.

“Since it was supported by public will in the south, but less so in the north, slavery was imposed to a greater extent in several southern states” would again be another use of the word “imposed” with respect to popular will that no one would find at all an odd usage.

I think your problem is that you feel because you are liberal, that makes you by definition smart, just as many liberals believe that by definition they cannot be racist.

If you would reflect on your comments a little before posting them, you might do a little better than you display here.

This has been another heapin helpin from the Chef at the Buffet of Perspective.

Yes, and if the writer of the post had specified who had done the “imposing” I wouldn’t have commented on it.  He left it open and implied that somehow Metro was forced on the Portland area by some undetermined force.

“You two need to think a little before you post.”

Why don’t you, some day please, take your own advice instead of imposing your willful hypocrisy on the rest of us?

The best thing Tom Hughes could accomplish as President of Metro, is to lead its dispandment. Let’s eliminate that layer of government that is unparralled anywhere in the country.
