Radio Host, Victoria Taft, Democrat for a Day idea gathers attention

taft.serendipityThumb Radio Host, Victoria Taft, Democrat for a Day idea gathers attention
Radio host Victoria Taft of KPAM-860AM has made a call for voters to be a Democrat for a Day. Taft urges voters to vote for Hillary to keep the Democrat race going right into Puerto Rico this summer. Taft’s crusade has now been picked up by KATU-TV and the Willamette Week.

Can such a plan work? Should it work? A brilliant idea or an abuse of the system? Oh Victoria what have you done? : )

I’m not buying in to this. Put the shoe on the other foot and imagine how we would be reacting if the Dems were manipulating our primary in such a way. With due respect to Victoria Taft this is not the thing to do.

  • Publius

That’s a hard thing to do. I, for sure, won’t be doing it. Not necessarily because I philosophy don’t agree with it….

  • carol

Can you do a cross-over vote in the primaries in Oregon? I don’t think so. i changed my registration anyway, for too long I have been a RINO. Clue, I won’t be voting for the Hill.

  • BG Portland

Another fine example of Republican values – betray your principles and cheat if needed to win. I guess the Repuglican approach is that the end justifies the means. I assume this means that the Repuglicans will have no problem with the McCain campaign’s innovative approach to financing earlier in the year – extending the campaign if needed only to obtain federal matching funds to repay a bank loans.

And you wonder why the whole “values” idea isn’t working – HYPOCRITES!!!

  • Bryant Lister

Why are the republicans afraid of a fair fight? Are they too ashamed by their own candidate to stand for him, rather than try and subvert the primary process for the democratic ticket. The idea that someone would use such a fundamental right, as voting, to manipulate the primary of another party, is pathetic and un American. People who actually are democrats or who support a particular democratic candidate for President should vote in the democratic primary. This attempt by conservatives to influence the democratic primary in a negative way should be rejected by all American citizens who value their right to vote and the principles on which this country was founded.

    • You are reaching

Let us set the record straight here pal, this hair brained scheme is one persons idea. Not a mandate from the weenie RNC or the cowardly GOP. A fair fight?

Who is fighting? The two candidates are having a contest and a process that will eventually choose a presidential candidate.

Political tricks are an invention of the democrats and dirty politics (Washington state governor) are a way of life. And yes I agree it is pathetic and should be strongly discouraged.

This attempt is not from the conservative camp and will never be my friend.

I am listed as an independent but vote my long studied choices. Both democrats and republicans are lost and by the most part corrupt.

I will not support any change of party activity and seeing as how the Secretary of state has no problem with it shows us that there must be something wrong with it.

This abuse should be discouraged by party leaders but don’t hold your breath as it could be a useful tool in future.

      • Bryant Lister

I think you need to recheck your facts. Mrs. Taft is not the only one putting forth this idea, Rush Limbaugh and a few other conservative radio hosts and pundits have suggested the same dirty trick. Next, claiming that political tricks are an invention of democrats is just ignorant, considering the actions of people like Nixon, Bush, Rove, etc. This is a creation of the conservatives, and I imagine that most people would not be surprised in the least if somehow Rove or other RNC/conservatives leaders were involved in this idea.

        • Steve Plunk

          Bryant,

Take a good look at the comments here and you will see how true conservatives feel on this. We are against it. Please don’t paint us as clones of radio hosts.

When it’s all said and done very few will attempt this as they see it like you, bad form.

  • Alan

Why just change for a day? Maybe the grass is greener on the other side…

  • RinoWatch

    Nope, not gonna do it.

VT, you’re an independent, will you go D for this stunt?

And stop and consider how you (VT) are quasi advocating for “Open Primaries” and that is another Nutball idea, just like Vote by Mail courtesy of Keisling and the RINO Norma Paulus.

Sorry Vicky, this is a bad idea…..

  • devietro

I like VT, she is a great person and has helped me out on a lot of College Republican stuff. However I am not going to do this, I feel that she is going down the same road Lars did and trying to get too big too fast.

They both are good when there talking and less spectacular when they try and be celeb’s.

  • Victoria Taft

At least I’ll be able to put my vote to use, for goodness’ sake! It’s not like John McCain needs my help or anything.
The only thing I would say is that those folks in the 5th CD should stick around and vote in the Republican primary.
Where was everyone, btw, when the D’s used dirty tricks to keep Nader out?
To my friend Michael at PSU, I’m sorry if you think I’ve gone Hollywood.

    • devietro

You have not gone Hollywood yet, but you showed a sign of going that direction. However if I agreed with 100% of what you said it would be mighty boring to listen too. Also the fact that your actually willing to come here and stand up for yourself speaks volumes about you NOT going hollywood. Few people are topics on here are willing to come and chime in in the comments.

Keep up the good work and keep the pressure on those who wrong our fine city.

  • Jerry

Victoria, I won’t have any trouble voting on the democrat side because I never changed my registration two decades ago when the democratic party left me. My friends think I am a republican with the positions I express. But I long ago decided that party affiliation means little, and yes sometimes I would like to be able to vote for a republican candidate in a primary. And you know me and probably thought I was a republican. I’ve even been on your program several times. Hello.

  • R. Wrysinski

You have no respect for this country and the freedom to vote that so many people have fought for. Your comments about trying to destroy the rights of people to express how they feel in a free and democratic society because you do not agree with them is distainful.

    Not a fan.
    R. Wrysinski

    • Victoria taft 5-8pm Monday-Friday KPAM 860

What are you talking about. I don’t recall saying any of the things you’ve just accused me of.

  • Jon

Brillant idea. With my boss’s approval I went ahead and did just that today while turning in R Candidate VPS at the SOS today.

    JRK

  • Jon S. B. from Beaverton

I love it. I’m shocked that I’m even thinking about voting for a D, but that I would actually cast a vote for Hillary. Pigs must be flying or its cold day in H, cuz I’m on-board. Plus some of my D friends will actually think that I’m coming over to their side, when in actuality, I’m pulling the wool over their eyes. PLEASE see if you can get some national attention on this so that it might be possible in some of the remaining states.

  • Bo

Vote for Hillary? I must say here that it is an interesting proposition. Consider this, is it really a vote for Hillary to become President, or a vote to let Hillary self destruct herself in the general.

Hillary has done incredible work becoming a Senator and legislating as a Senator, but as a recent candidate and a long long long long election cycle has caused her campaign to crack in too many places. A vote for her is to it all unfold.

  • Clint

Hmmm…Tough choice vote 4 a socialist or just more socialist policys, This Dem contest is not a horse race its more like a WWF event. Perhaps it may cause people to vote NONE of THE ABOVE, meaning less turnout 4 the Dems. Mabe evin major downturn in voter numbers, letting Republicans keep the White House without a real fight.

  • Roy

Fair enough. Since the Dems (New York Times, et al) chose John McCain for us, why shouldn’t we choose Hillary for the Dems.
