The gall and hypocrisy of Win McCormack

The gall and hypocrisy of Win McCormackby Dan Lucas

There’s a man who appears behind Suzanne Bonamici in her recent victory speech, just to the right of her in the photo. Bonamici had just won the CD-1 special election to replace David Wu.

The man is major Democratic donor & insider Win McCormack. McCormack gave at least $10,000 to Bonamici’s campaign. He also held a cocktail party the Friday before the election “to honor Oregon’s next Congresswoman, Suzanne Bonamici”.

Back in 2008, McCormack authored a book titled “You Don’t Know Me, A Citizen’s Guide to Republican Family Values“. Jeff Mapes at the Oregonian described it as a book that “chronicled dozens of sex scandals involving Republican figures. He thought Republican sexual hypocrisy was inextricably linked to the party’s misdeeds in government.”

Are you kidding me? McCormack wrote a book on sexual hypocrisy? He wrote this book 18 years after he learned of the serial molesting of a 13-year-old girl by Neil Goldschmidt and then did nothing! In explaining why he did nothing, McCormack said “I didn’t feel like it was my business…I didn’t want to destroy him”. McCormack showed no concern for other possible victims, just concern for the perpetrator. And there were reports of other victims. Hopefully no other young girls were molested by Goldschmidt after McCormack decided to do nothing in 1990.

Win McCormack then went on to donate thousands of dollars to David Wu’s campaigns long after he learned of David Wu’s attempted rape in college.

And now McCormack has just helped elect Suzanne Bonamici, the wife of David Wu’s lawyer. Bonamici is a so called “champion for women”. But when Bonamici learned of Wu’s latest sexual assault on a recent high school graduate, she said nothing. Both of Oregon’s U.S. senators spoke out and her primary opponents spoke out, but Suzanne Bonamici was silent. Her strange silence even had some of the staunchest Democrats scratching their heads.

Maybe McCormack can start work on his next book: “You Don’t Know Me, A Citizen’s Guide to Democrats Enabling Sexual Predators”. An added benefit for McCormack would be that he wouldn’t even have to travel outside of Oregon to write it.

Are you guys ever going to get over this loss? Or are you going to keep whining about it for years?

    • 3H

I vote #2.   I like the faux outrage: hypocrisy in politics?  Shocked!  Shocked I tell you!

      • guest

Pusan U:  VP’n3H, undergraduates attendant of das Kimchee Il GongBong Academy!

      • JoelinPDX

Neither VP, we aren’t going to get over it but we aren’t whining about it either.

If the results had been reversed you Ds would be whining as loud as anyone. I mean, hey, you guys are still whining about your major loss in 2010 and the ouster of Pelousy from the Speakership.

        • 3H

You know… I read a lot of liberal sites too, and I have seen anyone whine about that.

          • 3H

            that.. should definitely be “haven’t”

when your taxes go up and there are no jobs, maybe you progressive/socialist/communist=democrats. will be happy. when we have ten people on welfare and 1 person working, will you still think this is a great country? I hope you valley person will be the one worker.

      • valley person

If I don’t have a job, do I really have to worry about taxes going up?

Now that you mention it, if we got to a point where only 1 person had to work, and the other 10 could have the time to do whatever they wanted, that would be quite a great thing. We could arrange it where we rotate the work amongst those 11, and each would only have to work 5 weeks a year. Yes, I think that would be great and would happily take my 5 week shift.

I saw where public record of JFK’s multiple affairs while in office have been released.  Affairs of course happen on both sides of the isle.  Personally, I was kind of mystified when Bill Clinton was facing impeachment because of lying about an affair with Monica Lowenski (spelling probably off).  I didn’t think it worthy of such process, as these affairs are more to do with hormones than taking care of government business (unless the two become mixed and hurt the citizens materially).  Also, wondered why folks would expect Bill Clinton not to be conflicted as telling the truth might not have exactly sat well with his wife Hillary.

That’s politics:  Number one weapon of choice:  find the sexual skelton in the closet.  Was big weapon even in Thomas Jefferson’s days.

Obviously Democrat hypocrisy is not an issue for him (her?). It is just frustrating to see Dems claim, while getting a free ride from the press, it doesn’t matter with Dems but is serious with Repubs.
But mostly what bothers me is the Dem hypocritical claim to be for the little guy while simultaneously working their hardest to wreck the economy by outright harassment of job creators.

    • valley person

”while getting a free ride from the press…”

Weiner, a Democrat, was hounded from office by the press for sending pictures of his Johnson. Wu was hounded from office by the press. Elliot Spitzer was hounded from office by the press.  On the other hand, Senator Vitter, a Republican family values hypocrite, remains in office. There is no free ride from the press for Democrats.

      • Dickw

All you have mentioned were only covered after outlets like Drudge exposed them first. Wu was left alone for his entire career until the very end even though the press knew about his college rape accusation in his first years of service. The press did not speak up until his mental problems became so obvious the press would lose what little credibility they had left.
Believe what you want. But when Repubs get grief and are hounded from office for making passes at women (Packwood) or have lies about their military service printed without verification (Bush II) the facts show the press is eway to the left of normal Americans.

        • valley person

Wu was not left alone. The Oregonian was on his case years ago and even endorsed Corniles in 08.

What do you know about “normal” Americans. They may be further to the left than you think. They did after all, elect Obama.

You think there is a direct correlation between quality and popularity?

      • JoelinPDX

No but in this case there is a direct correlation between popularity and truth.

  • Rupert in Springfield

Maybe the best prescription would be to acknowledge that we all have sexual lives, misdeeds, foibles and in some cases crimes.

Yes, you as a teenager pressured that girl to have sex. And yes you decided to use sex to get back at your boyfriend, and you over there looked at a woman who was not your wife and fantasized about cash only hotels while she day dreamed about three men at a truck stop.

The Republican template – That monogamy establishes some direct ligature to God and a dreamy existence.

It’s idiocy and everyone knows it, That’s why so many violate it.

The Democrat dream – That anything is permissible, nothing should be condemned. The psychosis that condemnation makes things hot and the asininity that government belongs in every room of your house except the bed room, unless that’s to specify sleeping arraignments and mattress construction.

On matters of sex, both parties are abhorrently inconstant at best, and hypocritical at worst. I talk to people every day about this. It’s in my job description.

“Why don’t you shut up, sit down, stop telling me what you know, and think about what you know about yourself, because you aren’t Having that conversation.”

Wu was a jerk. An idiot who ran around behaving like a fool because he couldn’t figure out what his problem was. Why couldn’t he? Because of the idiotic notion that suceeding in life meant being in constant denial of what he wanted in his personal life.

The lesson here is not to demand sexual constancy from our politicians, The lesson here is to realize these people are largely idiots in such areas because they think they can be in denial in one realm and no one will figure it out.

Do you think being a politician, with the demand of time, fungible values and drive to tell others what to do is a pathway to sexual harmony or sexual self understanding? Not on your life.

Do you think having to shift ones values with the winds of political change leads one to even a true knowledge of self to the extent of even having an inkling of what you want sexually? Nope, not on your life again.

To expect of such fools in this area to make pronouncement, let alone legislation, into these matters is to allow the lowest in society to be exemplars for the rest.

Yes, because I question our leaders capacity in this area, that should be taken to mean I eat people, women and minorities hardest hit. It should also be taken that by questioning the competency in any way of our leadership that I am against government in any form whatsoever.

    • 3H

“Yes, because I question our leaders capacity in this area, that should be taken to mean I eat people, women and minorities hardest hit. It should also be taken that by questioning the competency in any way of our leadership that I am against government in any form whatsoever.”

LOL.. if you listen real carefully you’ll hear the straw-man crying “uncle!”  You have beat the stuffing out of him.  Unanamous decision.

And, in the future, can we get a little less of your internal thinking?  The “I want it to be legal for lesbians to get married so I stop hitting on them” was bad enough.  That whole sexual fantasy thing was more than a little ick.  TMI in fact.

      • Rupert in Springfield

        >LOL.. if you listen real carefully you’ll hear the straw-man crying “uncle!”

And if you listen not carefully at all, you will hear a cranky liberal screaming that his ox has been gored over a standard debate tactic of the left.

        >And, in the future, can we get a little less of your internal thinking?

You don’t like what I write so you are whining to me to stop writing rather than taking it upon yourself to stop reading?

        Rather childish.

        >The “I want it to be legal for lesbians to get married so I stop hitting on them” was bad enough.

What are you on about? This is the second or third time you are doing the frustrated little boy routine about something that bears no relationship to anything said.

Are you drinking when you comment here?

Are you simply so frustrated by me that you need to insult me at every post so you just make things up and insult on that basis?

You consistently display an astonishing inability to deliver a cogent argument. Your frustration with that inadequacy seems to manifest itself with a need to insult me at every opportunity rather than say anything meaningful.

You have descended to the point where you are making up weird lesbian fantasy routines and yammering on about them in a way that crystallizes a vision not of sentient being, but rather drooling madman, eyes over extended in their orbits flailing away at a keyboard illuminated by a naked light bulb with empty boxes of Cheetoes lying about. This discharge apparently to you is clever insult but to most would seem the lunatic raving of someone whose departure from reason occurred some time ago.

Next time, why not sit down, calm down, and write something a little more lucid? If it helps, don’t look at it as an admission to me, but rather a mental, and creative writing exercise.

Right now you are the “jump on Rupert’s every post and insult him” guy. Don’t you think spending a little more time to actually argue a position, if you actually have one, would be a little more productive?

Hope this helps. Put down the Cheetoes. Go outside. Take a walk and think of something constructive, or at least a little more pleasant to say.

        Thanks.

        • 3H

And if you listen not carefully at all, you will hear a cranky liberal screaming that his ox has been gored over a standard debate tactic of the left.

So you say.  I see you make this claim much more than I see liberals accusing you of hating the poor, etc…   Just admit it — you’re addicted to hyperbole and you need help., etc…   You can’t seem to help yourself.  That seems to be your standard debate tactic.  Admit to your problem Rupert, and stop blaming others.  You can’t start the path to recovery until you accept responsibility for your actions.

          • Rupert in Springfield

Oh, I will admit I make the statement more than liberals make the argument. I do so because I think it is funny to point out the absurdity of this debate tactic of the left with regularity.

However it is nice to see you admit you were wrong in your contention I was constructing a straw man in your previous post, with your admission that you have in fact seen such argument made in your current post.

            Thank you for that one.

Now if we could just figure out your weird lesbian dating thing I would say we have had a productive morning.

One step at a time, one step at a time.

            Cheers!

          • 3H

Are you going to claim you never said that?

          • 3H

Now if we could just figure out your weird lesbian dating thing I would say we have had a productive morning.

I figured it out (see below).  Turns out to be your weird lesbian dating thing.

It’s the blackouts Rupert, they’re making you forget things.   One day at a time, babe, one day at a time.

        • 3H

You don’t like what I write so you are whining to me to stop writing rather than taking it upon yourself to stop reading?

I wouldn’t know that statement was there until I read it, would I?  So you have psychic powers?  I’m just giving your a friendly warning that you’re on the verge of being “that guy.”

Why would I stop reading you?  You make me laugh.

LOL.. you are priceless Rupert.  You tell me to stop whining, and then you write this: Right now you are the “jump on Rupert’s every post and insult him” guy.    Now that is a great example of whining.  Poor, poor Rupert.  Jumped on for every post.  If you don’t like the heat, get out of the kitchen  ;)

You have descended to the point where you are making up weird lesbian fantasy routines and yammering on about them in a way that crystallizes a vision not of sentient being….

Not me my friend:  ” …two lesbians getting married are two more women out of the bar crowd that don’t have to waste drinks on before they spring the “I’m gay” line on you.”

          http://oregoncatalyst.com/14496-gingrich-delivered-obamas-state-union.html#comment-421568585

Did you just make the argument that you made a statement “not of sentient being”?

I don’t want to know what you’re doing to the keyboard when you think this stuff up, thank you.

          • valley person

So Rupert is now denying he wrote what he wrote?

          • 3H

When he’s not too busy claiming you said what you didn’t say.

Welcome to Rupert World.  It is a dark and contradictory place.

          • valley person

Sometimes at night, when he is alone, I wonder if Rupert’s head doesn’t spin around like Michael Keaton in Beetlejuice.

“Don’t ya hate when that happens.”

          • 3H

LOL..  been waiting.  I think Rupert went and ran away again: it’s pretty much what he does when he sticks his foot in his mouth.  With as much running as he does, he must be in pretty good shape.

Win McCormack has been trying to play the role of unbiased journalist for years. But whether he was a member of the clan or not…he is in reality a Jurn-O-List. There is nothing any more unbiased about him than any of the members of Ezra Klien’s bunch.
