Obama makes Time Mag person of year. Palin runner up.

Time Magazine has annointed Barack Obama as their Person of the Year. Time said “He has come to dominate the public sphere so completely that it beggars belief to recall that half the people in America had never heard of him two years ago “” that even his campaign manager, at the outset, wasn’t sure Obama had what it would take to win the election. He hit the American scene like a thunderclap, upended our politics, shattered decades of conventional wisdom and overcame centuries of the social pecking order. ”

Runner-ups included Hank Paulson, Nicolas Sarkozy and yes Sarah Palin. Would you believe Time magazine couldn’t resist mentioning Sarah Palin’s allegation of a false pregnancy? Oh the class of our modern media.

No mention of Michael Phelps in the runner up.

Putin won last year. He doesn’t seem as big this year,

  • dean

Hitler won in 1938, Stalin in 39, George Bush in 2000 AND 2004. Rudy Giuliani in 2001. Bill Clinton also “won” twice, though the 2nd time he shared the prize with Kennth Staar. Eeek.

If prosecutor Keneth Starr could get it, maybe Patrick Fitzgerald could get as well. The Blago excitement is just begining.

Obama is a reasonable pick for the dullards at Time. However all pale in comparison to who the real man of the year should have been as he affected far more lives than anyone this year:

    George Washington

As in dollar bill George Washington.

If a computer can win one year, as it did, then certainly a dollar bill should have won this year. It has affected way more people in its absence than any of the other clowns in contention.

I look at it this way, Jeff Bezos won in 1999, and he contributed nothing, was not visionary, and had hardly been a news icon at the time. I doubt one in twenty could have state what he claimed to have done, even in 1999.

Time’s person of the year has always been more a statement about the editors of Time than about the person named.

He is man of the century if you ask me. He has accomplished so much in such a short time. He is truly great!
