Former Dem pollster: media the enemy of American people

by NW Spotlight

Former Democratic pollster Pat Caddell recently spoke at the Accuracy In Media” (AIM) conference in Washington, D.C. Caddell worked on the McGovern campaign, the Carter campaign, and for Gary Hart, Joe Biden and Jerry Brown.

Highlights of Pat Caddell’s AIM speech

Following up on a Gallup poll that shows distrust in the media is at a new high, Caddell expressed great concern about the state of the media in America “I think we’re at the most dangerous time in our political history in terms of the balance of power in the role that the media plays in whether or not we maintain a free democracy or not.”

Caddell concluded his talk with this warning “The fundamental danger is this: I talked about the defense of the First Amendment.  The press’s job is to stand in the ramparts and protect the liberty and freedom of all of us from a government and from organized governmental power.  When they desert those ramparts and decide that they will now become active participants, that their job is not simply to tell you who you may vote for, and who you may not, but, worse—and this is the danger of the last two weeks—what truth that you may know, as an American, and what truth you are not allowed to know, they have, then, made themselves a fundamental threat to the democracy, and, in my opinion, made themselves the enemy of the American people.  And it is a threat to the very future of this country if that—we allow this stuff to go on.  We have crossed a whole new and frightening slide on the slippery slope this last two weeks, and it needs to be talked about.”

Pat Caddell is another good man who has seen the light and came out of the darkness of collectivism and Democratic politics. Watch the video – it is enlightening and spot on.

He’s right – the coverage, or lack of it, of the massive embassy attacks was downright scary. The administration sent Susan Rice on every network to tell the American people a lie – that American freedom of speech, a ridiculous video, was responsible for the attacks. The media gave full support to this effort, pasting Rices face, and her dopey explanation, everywhere.

The American people were asked to believe that an old video on You Tube had prompted an organized attack on several embassies. In the case of Libya, we were asked to believe that a bunch of people hopped up on You Tube just happened to converge on our consulate in Benghazi, that they just happened to have a bunch of RPG’s and morters along with their coolers and lawn chairs and oh, they just happened to also know the location of our ambassadors safe-house. Oh, and the fact that all of this happened on 9/11 was pure coincidence.

When this absolute idiocy turned out to be untrue, that not only was the video not the issue, but that these were coordinated terrorist attacks, the press did virtually nothing.

This is s stunning moment. The administration directly lied to the American people about what amounted to essentially a Tet offensive. There was a time when the press would have been outraged to have been taken for suckers by an administration. Not any more. Now they are lap dogs. At least until the next Republican is in the White House.

Currently the only sources for any kind of objective reporting on this administration are Univision and the UK press. The mainstream American press wont say a word.

Fox news is reporting it. I totally agree with what you are saying, this is the reason I chose not to get into journalism….

      • Rupert in Springfield

Nappy nap time in the investigative journalism offices so long as BO is in office.

Well, when the opposition is insisting the guy is a Muslim born in Kenya, what do you expect? People to waste time “investigating” your fantasies?

  • Tim Lyman

“… they were SOBs to everybody, which is exactly what they should be.”

    Precisely.
