Oregon-Based Lyon Films Finalist for National Political Award

Oregon-Based Lyon Films Finalist for National Political Award

Based on creativity and strategic approach, Oregon-based Lyon Films has been named a finalist for a 2009 Reed Award. The spot, made for Diane McKeel for Multnomah County Commission, is one of three finalists in the Local Candidate category. The winner will be announced on Thursday, January 22 in Washington D.C.

“We are excited to be recognized as a Reed Award finalist,” said Devon Lyon, president of Lyon Films, LLC. “We think our entry spotlights not only the creativity we bring to a project but our understanding of how creativity and strategy must go hand in hand.”

The spot, entitled “Creep Cauldron of Lies”, is a Halloween-themed spot that ran in the Portland market in the days leading up to and including Halloween. The ad invokes a kitschy feel that provides humor and allows for a more hard hitting message to be conveyed. In the race, McKeel was the clear underdog and the advertisement allowed her to stand out during the busy TV political spot period. The spot was also mentioned by The Oregonian, the state’s largest daily newspaper, in a pre-election review of the County Commission race. McKeel went on to win the race in an upset over a more well established and well known candidate. The spot can be viewed on the Lyon Films website, www.LyonFilms.com, in the Production Blog section.

“The spot really caught people’s eye,” said Kevin Curry, a producer on the spot. “Although it ran for fewer days than any other McKeel spots, it received the most attention.”

The Reed Awards are sponsored by Politics magazine and named after its founder Stanley Foster Reed. Winners are selected by a panel of over thirty political luminaries that include political guru Dick Morris, former Clinton spokesman Mike McCurry, former New Jersey governor and EPA chief Christine Todd Whitman, and ABC host George Stephanopolous.

“The pool of finalists for this year’s Reed Awards reflect not only the growing professionalization of the industry, but also how new campaign technologies are opening this marketplace to an increasingly diverse community,” said Politics publisher Jordan Lieberman.
