Forest Grove? (From Oregon Catalyst April 13th)

    Forest Grove
    April 15, 3:00 pm
    Pacific Avenue and Cedar Street

  • Jay Bozievich

    Eugene/Springfield Rally was 1,000!

    • Josh Reynolds

Springfield easily had 1,000. I know the RG reported 700-1,000 but it was more after the reporter left.

    • Paul Hobbs

One thousand? I’m not buying it. More importantly, did any of them acknowledge their tax cuts from the Obama administration? I also saw the misspellings on their protest signs–what do you figure the average I.Q. was out there?

      • Josh Reynolds

You don’t have to buy it. They were all agreeing with Peter DeFazio’s votes on the bailout and the stimulus. Who cares about IQ. Most know that the most successful entrepreneuers never graduated from college anyway.

      • Gene

Why must you insult others??? A lack of tolerance on your part is evident.

  • Don

There is no way Portland/Salem crowds were that large, maybe half that, which is still damn good….

    • C. Mitchell

There were at least 4,000 people there last night. Pioneer Square supposedly holds up to 7,000, and it was pretty dang full. I was standing up at the corner top of the square, on my tippy-toes trying to get a good idea of how many there were. I think 5,000 is a very good estimate.

    • Mark

Yes, th crowds were that large. According to the State Police, the upper area, when LOOSELY packed will hold 500. As someone with the media, I can tell you that walking through there with a camera was nigh on impossible because people were TIGHTLY packed. So estimate 750-1000 there. Same for each segment That’s just 1/5 of the total area taken up by the crowds, which spilled onto the second tier, on the very top stairs behind the podium, on both sets of stairs below, the flat area of the parking, along the east side of Court St., and went five rows deep all along the west side of Court. 4,000 is a fair estimate.

      • Mark

Whoops, my bad. I meant north and south sides of court street, not east and west. That’s what I get for posting pre-coffee.

  • Zero

    What does this all mean?

    • ANONYMOUS

*What does this all mean?* Not a damned thing until November 2010. The proof of the pudding will be how tenacious, those who protested yesterday are, how & if they continue to walk their talk. I have my doubt,s but I’m slightly encouraged.

      Where’s Howie?

  • Richard

Yes I think the number is a bit high I say around 1000
    http://www.asinglelion.com/lionspeak/?p=71

  • Bob A

I was not there but have credable reports Roseburg had 200+

I agree with Jay at least 1000 – perhaps as many as 1,500 in Springfield.

  • anonymous

Freedom of expression is good. Protesting taxes being too high right after a tax cut is kind of weird.

    • ANONYMOUS

Tax cuts? Did you say Tax cuts? Not that little paycheck pittance that NOBODY is talking about because it’s a sham! I do payroll and I know the deductions are a pittance if anything at all.

      • anonymous

In my own case it comes to $100 a month, which is $1200 a year. A pittance?

        • ANONYMOUS

How do you know it’s $100/month? Do you know how long your windfall will last? Are you intelligent enough to understand that your $100/month will be grabbed by other taxing agencies; so that in reality you are NO further ahead today than you were before you challenged my call that you are receiving a pittance.

You have fallen for the Fraud that is Barry Soetoro!

          • anonymous

I checked my pay stubs from before and after the tax cut and did the math. It rounds to $100 a month.

How long will it last? I don’t know. Will my $100 a month be “grabbed by other taxing agencies?” That’s possible, but in Oregon we have a property tax limit and the government has not raised the income tax rate in many many years. I don’t smoke, so that one is not a problem for me.

I don’t know that I have fallen for anything, I do know factually that I have an extra $100 a month that I did not have before Mr Soetoro took office. And I know factually that Republicans claimed before the election that he was lying about cutting taxes for the 95% of us who earn under $200K a year. That claim turned out to be false.

Maybe you fell for it and can’t believe he actually did what he said he was going to do.

          • ANONYMOUS

How do you know 95% have received payroll savings? How ’bout the self-employed? Did you know that unemployment “benefits are taxable?
12.1% unemployment in Oregon, pretty huh?

You claim that “in Oregon we have a property tax limit”. NOT true! Property taxes go up a minimum of 3% each year, plus applicable bond levies, etc.

A 9% income tax is obscene enough and with your attitude towards smokers maybe we should tax your Pablum.

Until you can prove that 95% have had their payroll deductions reduced you are passing gas. Why do you think Soetoro’s gang handled it this way. It CAN’T be proved nor disproved.

Soetoro is a Usurper in office. I can’t prove that he’s not a Natural Born Citizen, thus ineligible to be POTUS, but then again Soetoro hasn’t proved otherwise; Can You?

          • anonymous

You don’t have much use for facts I see. Self employed people pay payroll tax and income tax. In fact they pay double the payroll tax as working people because they pay the employer AND employee share.

Taxes have been levied on unemployment for at least 20 years. “Mr Soertoro” exempted the first $2400 of unemployment benefits from federal taxation.

Property taxes in Oregon go up a MAXIMUM of 3% a year, not a MINIMUM. Bond levies are voted in by the people to pay for things they presumably want, like more parks or better water systems.

Go ahead and tax my pablum. I’ll just cut back a bit and be ok.

This is getting pretty silly. He is the President. He is YOUR President as much as he is mine. He took the oath. Though maybe he had his fingers corssed. I can’t prove that he didn’t. But I can prove to my own satisfaction that he cut my taxes. I have the pay stubs right here.

        • GLC

That “1200.00″ is not a tax cut. The way is works is that at the end of the year you will be taxed on the amount as income. You could get more if you raised your deductions on your W-4 to more dependents and get the same increase. Please do your research. As for no new taxes, that is also not true. Employer’s have have then increased in UI, and L&I. Does that make a difference? Only if you are trying to decide if can keep employees, or cutback. Most I know have cut back or layed off. Mr. Obama can not continue to tax the producers and expect the economy to grow. THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT PRODUCE ANYTHING. IT TAKES FROM EVERYONE THAT PRODUCES AND GIVES IT TO SOMEONE ELSE WHO DOES NOT.

  • Jay Bozievich

    Paul Hobbs and Anon 11:53,

The Tea Parties were about the bailouts, the stimulus bill, the spending in the proposed 2010 budget, the expansion of debt, and the intervention of the government in the private economy. (And we recognize that this started long before the current administration.) Your attempts to label these protests as purely about taxes is specious at best and will fail.(Although I am sure the 80% of tabacco users that are low to middle income appreciate their “tax cuts”.)

And Paul, I organized the event and never got the marching orders from Fox you speak of, can you send me a copy.

    Jay

PS. Want to play chess sometime? I have an engineering degree and run a businees, but I guess I am just one of those low I.Q. people that were there.

    • Paul Hobbs

Yeah, yeah–I know you’re a smart guy. I know they’re not giving those engineering degrees away, and I’m sure you’re a better chess player than I am. You were the ORGANIZER of this event in Eugene. I don’t doubt that you can spell the word “socialism”–regardless of whether or not we agree on the definition. I was talking about the poor schlubs you got to walk around with the signs. They’re almost univerally better off under the Obama administration than they were for the last eight years. I also never said anything about Fox news–I did refer to the Koch brothers, who largely fund AFP. Care to comment?

      • Josh Reynolds

        MoveOn.org/George Soros. Care to comment???

      • Josh Reynolds

        Paul

By the way, Gateway is in Springfield, not Eugene. You know the city that has produced thousands of new jobs this decade. You really are an idiot.

  • rjr

Hey, did anyone see that crowd last October when Obama came to Waterfront Park?

  • Rupert in Springfield

As I understand is BO had no idea the tea parties were going on.

    What a yutz.

    • anonymous

As you understand it? What is your understanding based upon? Were you inside his head?

      • Rupert in Springfield

No, that’s what ABC news ( not exactly a for of the administration ) reported.

“The White House says the president is unaware of the tea parties and will hold his own event today,”

ABC News – Good Morning America – April 15th – Dan Harris

Here is the video clip – http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=319503

Anything more to add or are your attempts at brilliance played out for the day?

Oh yeeeeessss I can be quite the wry one can’t I? But fear not, for many are those who have said they would gladly stare into the sun for fortnight if only to grasp the slightest glimmer of the insightfulness that is my genius.

        Less Government – More Darwin

        • anonymous

Oh…the trusty MSM. THEY were the ones inside his head.

          • Rupert in Springfield

If they reported the White House said it, that hardly is the same as them claiming to be mind readers.

I think we can now add you to the yutz rolls.

          • anonymous

            Proud to be a member.

    • Paul Hobbs

Yeah, he knew they were going on. He’s a little busy trying to rebuild our economy after the long period of incompetence and deregulation in our financial sector under all these Republican shit-monkeys we’ve had in power. Please give him a break if he doesn’t have time to respond to every little white-trash temper tantrum he sees on Fox news.

  • Richard B

I might have to take it back if there was some form of independent counting

  • Carla Axtman

Photos from the Portland and Salem events can be viewed at Blue Oregon:

    http://www.blueoregon.com/2009/04/tax-day-roundup-in-pictures-k
    eyword-contrast.html

I was present at the Portland event. I find the 5,000 attendance figure dubious. The Square had a lot of folks..but it also had a giant CLEAR truck and display and a good-sized KPAM thing set up there (Taft was broadcasting her show), filling lots of space. Not to mention a number of big tables.

It also appeared like a significant number of those in Portland came from the Salem rally.

  • Tania

    Hi,
Not sure that this is true:), but thanks for a post.
