TOP TEN TRUTH: #10

TRUTH
State Government spent $48.386 billion in the 07-09 budget cycle.

FACT
Governor Kulongoski’s budget calls for $54 billion in spending in the next budget cycle. Democrats now say they have to make $4 billion in cuts from the Governor’s budget, meaning they will spend $50 billion this cycle. That is still more than a $1.5 billion spending increase.

REALITY
Government doesn’t need to be increasing spending while Oregon families and businesses are having to cut from their budgets. Government can pay for the priorities that matter most to Oregonians without raising taxes.
