Taxpayer Association: Beer tax back on agenda?

Taxpayer Association of Oregon Tax Alert,

The capitol is a buzz with talk of the beer tax making a late crash to the Legislative party. The Beer tax supporters are pushing a round of lobby calls to push through a master beer tax compromise. While under the emergency speed session rule, ordinary citizens may not know what this is until it hits. To oppose a beer tax call your lawmaker at 1-800-332-2313.

Waste of time to call my “lawmakers”. They’ve already voted in favor of tax and fee increases, despite earlier calls.

Calling them again is like ____________
    fill in the blank.

Ya know all of this milk and cookie crap,”call your lawmaker” is just that, drink your milk, eat your cookie, grab your mat, and go take a nap kindergartners. zzzzz

Beer is the devil’s drink. Higher taxes will result in lower consumption, just like cigs. This a good thing…just not high enough.
If government doesn’t look out for us, who will?
We need help in reducing drinking.
This will help more than anything else short of prohibition.

This is an absolutely ridicules time to start raising taxes. Oregon- especially portland has some of the highest unemployment rates in the nation. There are hundreds of breweries throughout the state that employ hundreds more. Imposing such a tax could and would shut down many of the small breweries.

Creating this tax would simply cause brewers to move elsewhere. One of Portland’s main tourist attraction is the multiple breweries within close proximity….

Why should we give the state more money when they can not efficiently and effectively utilize the funds that they are already allocated???
