Bill Stallings passed away last Wednesday of an apparent heart attack. Bill was a Republican PCP, House candidate, Navy veteran and a prolific sign maker for political causes. As a sign maker Bill donated thousands of free sign labor and also walked neighborhoods for the candidates and the ballot measures he believed in. Oregon is a much more blessed state because of the devotion and good will that Bill Stallings gifted to all of us.

One Bill story”¦.You cannot talk about Bill without mentioning his crafty sense of humor. Back in the 90’s there was a man named Lou who was head of the Multnomah County Republican Party and often sparred with Bill. One day, Bill created a postcard saying the Lou should be recalled as Chair. Bill only made one postcard, used a printer label, and sent it to the County Party headquarters addressed to some random name. Lou saw that postcard and came undone. He spent hours that night calling everyone conceivable trying to clear his name from anyone he thought received the postcard. I deducted that it was Bill who started it and called him. He told me that he only sent one and was laughing heartily that his joke was so wildly successful. – Jason Williams
