The Oregonian reported [1] on Friday that America’s first wave-powered utility, located here in Oregon, has all but ground to a halt due to “regulatory and technical difficulties.” The equipment for the wave-powered utility is from Ocean Power Technologies (OPT), a New Jersey company.
The wave energy project has been hampered by layers of government regulations and initial problems with their buoy generators and anchoring system.
The New York Times reported [2] last year that the state-financed Oregon Wave Energy Trust had spent $10 million on wave-energy research and grants, including more than $430,000 to Ocean Power Technologies.
