[1]A majority of Oregonians overwhelmingly favor a complete overturn of the law allowing convicted felons up to a 30% reduction in their sentence (HB 3508, 2009). However, the legislature’s majority party has abused their power, ignoring public outcry, and crafted legislation that provides them with political cover but leaves victims and families without the only real solution: permanently ending the 30% earned time law. Senator Larry George (R-Sherwood) describes [1]the broken and heavy handed process that created Senate Bill 1007, a bill that merely freezes the earned time law until after November elections.
