National expert sees Con. Schrader as vulnerable

National expert notes Schrader’s growing vulnerability
By Scott Bruun for Congress,

WEST LINN, Ore — A top national handicapper of political races moved Scott Bruun’s campaign for Congress up its list of the most competitive congressional races in the country today.

“Schrader, a former state senator, has voted with Democrats down the line on major votes, and this suburban district is the most marginal in the state,” noted Charlie Cook, editor and publisher of the Cook Political Report, as he moved Oregon’s Fifth Congressional District from “Likely Democrat” to “Lean Democrat.” “This year, Republicans have an appealing candidate in state Rep. Scott Bruun, who argues Schrader hasn’t been the fiscal hawk in Congress he sought to be in the state legislature.” “People as far away as Washington, DC are picking up on the sentiment here in Oregon,” stated Bruun. “Oregonians are fed up with Congress’ unsustainable spending, our growing mountain of national debt, and partisan healthcare legislation that will do little to address the issue of skyrocketing costs for Oregon families.”

After edging Schrader in fundraising for the last quarter of 2009, Bruun says he is continuing to be well received. “Despite not being able to raise money during the month of February due to the legislative session, we will continue to post good numbers,” Bruun stated. “Those twenty-five days cost us, but we are working hard, building a strong organization and will maintain a fundraising pace proportional to last quarter.”

Scott Bruun is a businessman and three-term Oregon legislator. Bruun and his wife of 16 years, Alison, have two young daughters and live in Clackamas County. They are very active in local charitable, sports and church activities.
