Financing a political campaign reached a new high when candidates running for state offices in 2009–2010 raised $2.5 billion, surpassing the $2.2 billion record set during the comparable 2005–2006 elections.

The Institute has just released two reports documenting the record-breaking amounts raised by candidates, as well as an in-depth analysis of the money raised for and against ballot measures in 2009 and 2010. And, for the first time, the Institute explored all this fundraising in the context of a decade of state campaign finance data.
