Portland, OR – The Oregonian has reported that Monica Wehby supports the health care plan proposed by Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley called the Healthy Americans Act.

Rep. Jason Conger, who is running against Wehby, is starting a state wide radio buy to point out there is no fundamental difference in Obamacare and Wehby-Wyden Care.

The Wyden-Merkley Healthy Americans Act contains the core policies of Obamacare, including the individual mandate, healthcare exchanges, new federal standards that would lead to the cancellation individual plans, IRS penalties for people who do not purchase government approved healthcare and taxes on small businesses. When asked about her controversial support for this legislation, Wehby said Sen. Ron Wyden “had a good plan” and that she and Wyden “think a lot alike in regards to healthcare.”

“Obamacare has been a disaster and needs to be repealed and replaced. It is unbelievable that someone running in a Republican primary still believes these policies can work,” said Conger. “Oregon Republicans do not want another Senator that ‘thinks a lot alike in regards to health care’ with Democrat Sen. Ron Wyden. We are looking for someone who will stand up for Oregonians and fight to repeal Obamacare, not someone who was for the key elements of Obamacare before she was against them.”

The ad released by Conger’s campaign [2] sums up Wehby’s position by saying, “If it sounds like Obamacare, regulates like Obamacare, and costs like Obamacare; it is Monica Wehby’s Obamacare.”
