SALEM – The Independent Party of Oregon (IPO) today released an electronic version of its 2014 Voters’ Pamphlet in conjunction with its upcoming Primary Election, which will be held from July 7 – 19.  The pamphlet, which includes profiles of most of the candidates who were qualified by the IPO, will be delivered via US Mail to the party’s approximately 100,000 members on or after June 7th.

The IPO Voters’ Pamphlet can be downloaded here:

The IPO has qualified 38 candidates to run in its primary election for offices including:  US Senate, US House of Representatives, State Senate, State Representative, and Jackson County Commissioner, Position 3.

As a minor political party, the Independent Party of Oregon is not permitted to participate in Oregon’s statewide primary election.  Instead, it conducts its own primary election in the month of July.

Beginning July 7th, IPO members will be able to log in to the party’s web site and prepare and download their ballot, which must be returned by July 19th.

The IPO is the first political party in Oregon to conduct a primary election at its own expense and the only political party in the United States to use internet voting to conduct binding primary elections.

4 of the candidates who filed are running strictly as “Independents”, while the remaining candidates, including Governor John Kitzhaber and his opponent, Dennis Richardson, are seeking the party’s cross-nomination.  Winners, including those who are cross-nominated by the IPO, will be able to list the “Independent” label after their name on the November ballot.
