How to Exorcise Your Political Demons

When I was a young lawyer in Helena, Montana, I was walking back to the state capitol from downtown. I encountered an elderly woman and mumbled “Good morning” as I passed her. She wheeled and shouted at me, “You just shut up!” I looked surprised and started to apologize assuming she misunderstood my mumbled greeting. But she continued, “I should know. I was a nurse for forty years.” At which point she turned and stormed away in the opposite direction. She obviously was suffering some form of dementia.

I continued on towards the capitol and found myself laughing. I thought there must be a kind of joy in exorcising your demons by just letting go and thought when I was much older I might give that a try. Well I am much older now; I turn seventy-five this weekend. And so it is time. But I don’t think that yelling at some innocent soul on a street corner is particularly helpful. So, I have reserved my “exorcism” for the political elites and the Hollywood phonies.

But let’s stop right here for a moment. I vowed several years ago not to give a fig about political correctness. So, if you are one of the “snowflakes” who is threatened by anything you didn’t learn from the teachers union at your local grade school, or one of those morons who are offended on behalf of others, you probably ought to stop right here and tune into Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood reruns. Otherwise read on.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) opposes construction of the wall on our southern border while living in a house in San Francisco surrounded by a wall. She wants to impose strict restrictions on the ownership of guns – even to the point of amending or repealing the Second Amendment – while being guarded twenty-four hours a day by armed agents. She dutifully wears her mantilla to mass at Catholic churches while trying to explain how the Church actually supports taxpayer funded abortions on demand. And she supports Medicaid and other welfare payments to those illegally in the country while trying to destroy medical choice for those working families who pay the bills. So, just shut up. Nancy. You hypocritical old dingbat.

Former Vice-president Joe Biden is a CINO (Catholic in name only). For years he defended the Hyde amendment which prohibits the use of taxpayer funds for abortions as the “middle ground” between the Church’s belief that life begins at the moment of conception and the “woman’s right to choose.” Of course during that same time he approved of the $500 Million dollars appropriated annually by Congress for use by Planned Parenthood which is the largest abortion mill in the United States. He reasoned that because Planned Parenthood provides other services that “wink, wink” the appropriated funds weren’t really for abortions. But now, as Mr. Biden prepares his third run for president he has abandoned any pretense of complying with the teachings of his Church. He reasons that he cannot support taxpayer-funded healthcare unless he also supports taxpayer-funded abortions on demand. So much for life begins at conception. We now know that any vestige of principles are easily abandoned by Mr. Biden in pursuit of a vote. So, just shut up, Joe. You mealy mouthed coward.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is running for president. She has staked out a claim to every far-left proposal offered thus far. But she is most noted for having claimed Native American ancestry in order to take advantage of “minority preference” programs offered by universities (most notably Harvard) where she has taught. When confronted by taunts from President Donald Trump, Ms. Warren secretly submitted to a DNA test which established that she was, at best, no more than 1/1064 indigenous – a standard present in virtually anyone who is the offspring of pre-World War II immigrants from Europe. Mr. Trump then twisted the knife by opining that he has more “Native American blood” than Ms. Warren and that he has none. But now Mr. Warren has gone over the top again by declaring on the 75th anniversary of D-Day that the war on global warming was more important than the fight against Hitler’s Nazi machine. Let’s remember that Hitler and the Nazis were real blood and guts villains responsible for a war that killed over 50 million people, while global warming is a computer program that has failed at every turn to match facts with predictions. So, Pocahontas, just shut up – you phony poser.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) is now chairman (and previously the ranking minority member) of the House Intelligence Committee. For two years Mr. Schiff has been running his mouth that there is “evidence” confirming that Mr. Trump colluded with the Russians during the 2016 presidential race. Even after Special Counsel Robert Mueller found no evidence of collusion, Mr. Schiff doubled-down by insisting that the evidence was right there in front of us for all to see although he could not or would not specify what evidence to which he was referring. And now that Attorney General William Barr has opened an investigation into the origins of the phony allegation of Trump/Russian collusion Mr. Schiff is all atwitter about the investigation being a part of a grand cover up of the original collusion allegations. Apparently Mr. Schiff can see clearly that which is not there and will not see what is actually there – Clinton/DNC collusion with the Obama appointees to create a myth about Mr. Trump’s collusion with Russia. So, Adam, just shut up – you lip-sweating, pusillanimous pencil neck.

The list can go on forever – and in fact, I may continue the list in future columns. But for now, create your own list and remember what country music fans all over the nation said to the Dixie Chicks – just “shut up and sing.”

And I was right; it does feel good to exorcise your demons by yelling “Just shut up!” You can even say it to me.
