Poll: New voters change Oregon landscape

Riley Research just conducted a new poll on new voters and submitted an article [1] for The Oregonian. Here are the highlights:

– 7% of voters in the 2006 election were new voters.

– New voters are surprisingly young voters:
Under 40 youth make up 43% of the new voters. Compare that to the fact that youth traditionally make up only 16% of the traditional electorate.

New voters by party registrtation:
Democrat 37%
Republican 33%
Independent 31%

New voter by issues:
Gay Rights 22%
Higher Ed 15%
Rainy Day Fund 13%

Traditional Voter issues:
School Funding 18%
Higher Ed. 16%
Environmental 13%
