Senator Roger Beyer steps down. Tootie Smith takes lead.

Yesterday, State Senator Roger Beyer announced his plans to resign early to take up a lobby positition. Already leading the rumor mill for Beyer’s replacement and early support among some of the lobby is former State Representative Tootie Smith. Smith has served as Representative in that district for many years, which gives her strong credentials with the precinct voters and county commissioners.

    I would think Gilliam and/or Girod would want the job as well. All three would be good.

      Yes, both Girod and Gilliam have plenty of experience attaining their seats through the appointment process.

    If I recall, Tootie went for the appointment that Gilliam ending up getting, so she’s no shoe-in. That said, she would do a good job.

    Tootie embarassed the hell out of herself during the Gilliam appointment. She went absolutely apoplectic when she wasn’t selected by the central committee. To declare her in the lead is an absolute joke and really shows a lack of understanding about the process. Tootie, sweetheart, this is an appointment…not a coronation. A little humility goes a long way. Try it sometime.

    I like Tootie a lot, but she is doing VERY well as a lobbyist for conservative family values. I think she might be better suited for that role than running for office again. Plus, I’m guessing she makes a lot more money…
