I’m not the greatest fan of of Lars Larson, but I heard him interview Alley and Lim on each of the past two afternoons.

On immigration, he made mincemeat of Alley with regard to the new Arizona law — either Alley doesn’t understand the law, or he was dissimulating with Lars (a nice way of saying he was lying.)

For somebody who tries to present himself as a really sharp businessman type, Alley sounded not so ultra-brite.

With Lim, he tried to pin down how to resolve the state budget problems — Larson gets it about the contractual obligations on PERS. Lim just had a bunch of platitudes. Finally, he repeated the Saxton formula — “fire all the public employees and then hire them back again with lower benefits.” This worked so well for Saxton.

Republicans should hope the nice but inarticulate sounding Dudley somehow does better.

The Democrats aren’t going to make these guys look any less dopey than Lars does.

Otherwise, it looks like another round with Kitzhaber.

    Or could it be Bradbury?

There is no good way to talk with Lars about immigration. Unless you come out in favor of kicking in doors and rounding up anyone without a birth certificate in hand, Lars will go out of his way to take you down.

It’s not that he disagrees with Lars about immigration, it’s that Lars easily uncovered that Alley either doesn’t understand the implications of his (Alley’s) objections to the Arizona law, or he does understand — Alley would want changes in the law that would essentially negate it — and he tried to bluff his way out of it.

At the least, he should have known that Lars would smoke him out, and have been ready for it, perhaps to admit that he really doesn’t want an Arizona-style crackdown on illegals. But he stonewalled and bluffed, and ended up looking unserious to me.

If I were still a Republican, it would be hard to vote in the primary for any of these guys. (Dudley, so far, seems completely inarticulate; plus, I hear he has a spotty record of voting. If it’s not worth his while to vote, why should I bother voting for him?)

Too bad, this should be a good chance for Republicans, especially with the sad Democrat governor lineup here.

I love that conservatives in Oregon are so daggum dumb that they can’t even spell their own candidates’ names correctly. In headlines.

I sure hope it’s not government employee union owned, driven Badbury (this would be government employee unions continuing to over draw benefits at the expense of most other Oregonians). This would be the worst outcome followed by Kitzslobber. I would take either Dudley or Alley, even though neither is truly conservative (most conservative would be Sizemore but his chances of winning a general election would be next to nil). Odds seem to maybe have gotten worse for both Alley and Dudley as I hear of a well known lobbyist, promoting himself as a fiscal conservativeness, exploring launching an independent candidacy, which I think might split off the general election votes away from Dudley or Alley in favor of Kitzslobber.
