Let’s talk about that proposed casino at Cascade Locks.
You know, for a change I’m actually agreeing with Governor Ted Kulongoski. I think the Indians should be allowed to build a casino at Cascade Locks.
Let me give you some of the new information I got yesterday from Senator Rick Metzger whos running for Secretary of State. He’s a Democrat and I don’t often agree with him. But, when he points out that the Indians already own land which is considered part of their reservation except that land is right in the middle of Mark Hatfield State Park. Why in the world would we want them to build a casino there? But, they have the legal right to do it.
They would prefer, though, to build the casino at Cascade Locks, in a former industrial park, on the former site of a sawmill. Wouldn’t that be a great place to get cleaned up by the Indians. Have them build the proposed $400 million resort, employ 1700 Oregonians just as we head into a recession. Or would you rather simply ban it from there and have the Indians build in the state park?
That’s just dumb.
