Dems convention in perfect crony capitalism venue

by NW Spotlight

Looks like the Democrats are trying to validate Mitt Romney’s ads from last month that pointed out President Obama’s crony capitalism: “President Obama’s time in office has been marked by political payoffs to the donor class and layoffs for the middle class. He showered his friends with stimulus funds…”

The NY Times reported yesterday that the main cheerleader for securing Charlotte, N.C., as the site of this year’s Democratic convention has been a supporter of President Obama’s and the Democrats’ energy initiatives. In return, his company has been paid back with $204 million in stimulus money and a $22 million grant to develop wind energy technologies.

The main cheerleader is James E. Rogers, chief executive of Duke Energy, the nation’s largest utility. The NY Times reports that Duke Energy “has supported the energy initiatives of President Obama and Congressional Democrats, has received federal economic stimulus money and alternative-energy grants. Its financial future stands to be greatly influenced by the sorts of environmental proposals the president’s party has vowed to pursue.”

According to the NY Times article, President Obama pledged “to free the [convention] from business and lobbyist support.”, and last year Obama campaign officials sent a note to supporters promising this year’s convention would be “a different convention for a different time.”

Another broken Obama promise, and more corporate bashing by Obama in front of the cameras while he’s engaging in crony capitalism on a grand scale when he’s off camera.
