Has DeFazio Received His Thank You Note From Murtha?

Embattled Congressman Pens Notes to Fellow Dems in Light of Growing Scandal
By National Republican COngressional Committee

Washington — Embattled Pennsylvania Congressman John Murtha (D-PA) has been sending his fellow Democrats thank you notes for their support during his ever-growing scandal involving defense contractors who have benefited greatly from Murtha’s influence in Washington. Many of the Democrats, like Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR), have been beneficiaries of Murtha’s money, having received $4,000 from Murtha’s re-election and political action committees.

As reported in Politico:

As federal prosecutors prepared subpoenas for one of his colleagues and the Navy disbarred a defense contractor with close ties to him, John Murtha last week took an unusual step in response to the ethics imbroglio that seems to be intensifying around him.

“He sent thank-you notes to fellow Democrats”¦According to aides who have seen copies, the notes said only “Thanks for your support,” and they seem to have been signed by Murtha himself.” (“Murtha’s defense: thank-you notes,” Politico, 06/01/2009)

The investigation into the PMA Group and Members of Congress is gaining momentum as the offices of Rep. Peter Visclosky (D-IN) have been subpoenaed to investigate his role with the now defunct-defense contractor.

“With members of the Democratic caucus now receiving thank you notes from Jack Murtha for their loyalty, the question that begs to be asked is “˜has Peter DeFazio received his thank you note yet?'” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “Considering DeFazio has received $4,000 from Murtha, it would be fitting that he would get a thank you note for his unwavering support in the face of the ever-growing ethical cloud that surrounds Murtha.”

There is a delicious irony in the man who slandered the Marines to score political points now apparently using defense spending for self enrichment. I guess when it comes to Mr. Murtha, being in “the service” means how can our armed forces be of service to him, not the country.

Could be worse though. Were Mr. Murtha a Republican, news of this might actually get out and hurt the party as a whole.
