Press release from Mike Mathisen campaign,

Hermiston, OR — Local Children’s Author and Entrepreneur Mike Mathisen is running against Bob Jenson for State Representative in House District 58, covering Hermiston, Pendleton and Umatilla. “I’m running for State Representative because I believe we need fewer taxes on Oregonians, not more,” stated Mathisen. “Our current Representative voted to raise taxes on Oregonians who are suffering under an economic recession. That’s not how you create jobs and rebuild Oregon’s struggling economy.”

Mathisen has owned several businesses throughout his career as an entrepreneur including an ice cream concession for sporting events and mobile kitchens. An adoptive and foster parent for over a decade, he recently wrote a children’s book titled Abby and the Helping Mommy to help foster kids and other kids understand the process of a child leaving their home and entering foster care.

“Children deserve to have a positive childhood,” said Mathisen. “My wife Kim and I have been foster parents and adoptive parents because we believe children should have every opportunity to succeed and just enjoy being a kid.”

Mathisen’s campaign will focus on a back to basics budget with an emphasis on lowering taxes, encouraging job growth and reducing unemployment, funding education to focus on core issues and controlling government spending.

“It is time to stop hurting businesses with greater taxation and start championing them by encouraging exploration of new ways to expand and innovate,” said Mathisen. “It is time to recognize the good things that small businesses contribute to our local economy.”
