Bud Pierce_thbGuest Speaker: Dr. Bud Pierce
Oregon Executive Club
7:00 pm • Wed. Feb. 3rd

Portland Airport Shilo Inn
Dinner optional.

Meet our February speaker, Dr. Bud Pierce, candidate for Governor of Oregon.  Bud’s bio reads like an ad for commitment to God, Family, Country, and a career of service. Valedictorian in High School, Phi Beta Kappa in College Alpha Omega Alpha in Med School…while courting his bride…and being a Marine. Then, in 1994, Oregon pulled him north. Board certified in Internal Medicine, Oncology, and Hematology, Dr. Pierce practices in Salem, and teaches at OHSU in Portland and Western University of Health Sciences in Lebanon. And serves on boards at his church, as well.

Too many awards to list, including, for 2014, Oregon Medical Association Doctor Citizen of the Year

Battling disease should prepare a person for battling other destructive adversaries, like excess government, bureaucratic bloat, regulatory sprawl, and out-of-control public payrolls.

So let’s hear a conservative doctor’s prescription for restoring Oregon’s health.

Seriously, Oregon needs fixing; on that we all agree. Let’s have a chat with a candidate who can do that.

Wednesday night, February 3rd.

I admire Dr. Pierce, but his candidacy is illustrative of the difference between the R’s and the D’s in Oregon. The D’s work together in lockstep to create candidates and see them work their way up from minor offices to major offices. The R’s do not work together as a team, but rather candidates like Dr. Pierce, Monica Lewinsky and myself for PDX council, with no prior experience, get a bug to run. Then, if they are nominated, but do not pass all the social litmus tests, a bunch of R’s refuse to vote. The D’s, on the other hand, unanimously support their candidate.

Unless we end up with qualified candidates with prior governmental experience and get behind them these quixotic candidates will continue to be the norm. The fact that Allen Alley isn’t in it by now pretty much confirms he does not think Kate can be defeated this year.

While I agree with the sentiment that Rs don’t rally around candidates like Ds do, I don’t think having political experience is the key. Allen has government experience being in Kulongoski’s office and pissing off the grassroots while running the ORP. He also has lost 2 major elections. The problem is the candidates are crazy or have way too much baggage. If anything Allen isn’t in because people don’t support him and there is a better candidate who has been in the race for months already building an infrastructure and getting notoriety.

      Monica Lewinsky? Or Monica Wehby….

        Wehby… haha… Freudian slip??
