House GOP leader Wayne Scott retires

From Wayne Scott announcement 8-1-07:

Dear Friends,

I am writing to let you know of my decision not to seek re-election to the House. After several weeks of discussions with my family, I have decided that now is the right time for us to step aside from public life. After three terms in the House, including nearly four years as caucus leader, I am looking forward to traveling with Marlene and spending more time with my four grandkids.

While I will be serving out the rest of my term until January 2009, I intend to step down as Republican Leader in approximately one month to allow our new leader plenty of time to get acclimated before the heat of the 2008 campaigns begin.Thank you for your unwavering support of the House Republicans during my tenure as leader. I sincerely appreciate your assistance, loyalty, and friendship as our caucus has gone through its ups and downs. I plan to help the new leadership team in any way possible to help our caucus re-gain the majority in 2008. I firmly believe it can be done and look forward to seeing us re-take the House in January 2009. I know you will continue to support our efforts and I will be speaking with you soon about how you can support our 2007 Golf Tournament on September 17th.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 503-266-7589. I look forward to seeing you soon!

Best regards,
Wayne
