Alert!! Kotek floats $3B new taxes (property, income, sales, gas)

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek’s Housing Production Advisory Council has just submitted a 20-page draft report, HPAC Policy Recommendations, on ideas on how to address the affordable housing crisis.

On section 7 (Page 16/17) it lists 5 suggestions to raise new revenue (as shown below):

 

#1 Income tax increase?  Oregon was already rated the #1 tax state in America for effective tax rate on the middle class by CNBC.  How high can they go?

#2. Property tax increase?  How do you make housing affordable if you raise $504 million in higher property taxes?

#3. A new retail sales tax?  Lawmakers already passed a hidden business sales tax in 2019 which was the largest tax in Oregon history.   Already Walmart, Target and REI have closed stores in Oregon.

#4. A new Payroll Tax?  Lawmakers have already passed two different new payroll taxes in the last 6 years, now they aim for a third new payroll tax?

#5. Double fuel tax?   Gas taxes are for roads, not building houses.

As the report notes, these are recommendations that lawmakers could be addressing or even voting on in the next few weeks.   Four lawmakers, from both parties, sit as members on Kotek’s Council.    They need to hear from taxpayers that our position is NO NEW TAX!    High taxes create poverty.   High taxes create unaffordable housing and even higher taxes makes it worse.

 

Call or Email your lawmaker.

1. Call and email them ASAP
2. Tell them to reject all the taxes.  “No New Taxes”.
3. “No New Taxes” as part of Kotek’s Housing Production Advisory Council recommendations
4. Always be respectful, polite and kind.
5. These lawmakers are open to our ideas, and have not taken positions on this new draft report.  Your friendly opinion is needed.
6. Share your own personal example on how new taxes would hurt you!
7. Then share this article with your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers.
