Portland City Commissioner and mayor candidate, Rene Gonzales, is pledging to boost the Portland Police force to 1,000 officers — 1,200 if possible.   Currently it hovers around 795, so it would be a 20% boost.

Gonzales told the Willamette Week, he wants to make Portland, “the safest city in America.” And “I’ll get us to a thousand police officers, bring back neighborhood watches and bring back business watches” This comes after Portland defunded police by nearly $15 million a year and 100 police positions, which created the Portland crime wave.

Rene Gonzales is clearly the best candidate for Portland Mayor in the race and is why the Taxpayers Association of Oregon has endorsed him and encourages Portland voters to vote for him.
