In-fighting thoughts: Rep. Helfrich, Kari Lake, Speaker Johnson

Yesterday was a day of in-fighting news in 3 ways.

#1. Yesterday morning, Oregon House Republican Leader, Jeff Helfrich, provided details on why he is stepping down from his leadership position.  He cited rampant in-fighting and drama with the Oregon House Republican caucus.

#2. Also yesterday, the Congressional House Republicans in Washington D.C. agreed to end their controversial rule allowing a single House member to kick-start a (forced) Speaker replacement proceeding.   They upped the rule to require at least nine votes to start such a Speaker revolt.  This was an example of in-fighting being reconciled.

#3. Also, yesterday, the much watched Arizona U.S. Senate Race officially announced that super-liberal Rueben Gallego won over conservative Kari Lake, which is a test-case in-fighting and failure.  Kari Lake lost two elections in a row where her party has a statewide 6% registration lead.  Republicans made gains across Arizona EXCEPT for her race.  Same with her loss in 2022 where Kari underperformed her Governor compared to the similar Treasurer race where the Republican handily won.   When I was in Arizona a few weeks ago, I noticed Gallegos ads were making him look like a conservative.  I also noticed hit ads on Kari Lake by featuring a video of her at an event where she screams “I hear that McCain supporters are in the audience tonight.  Go tell them to get the hell out of here!”  That moment of in-fighting caught on film became the juicy video ad used by her opponent to further divide the traditional Republican base.

Three in-fighting lessons in one day, all different in their own way.
