Five top Secretary of State officials have resigned ahead of their newly elected boss Tobias Read taking the job in 2025.

– Deputy Secretary of State Cheryl Myers
– Chief of Staff Ben Morris
– Elections Director Molly Woon
– Audits Director Kip Memmott
– Legislative Director Kathy Wai

Most controversial has been Molly Woon who was a former deputy director of the Democratic Party of Oregon, a partisan position for which was unusual choice for the State’s highest election office (Elections Director) where non-partisanship is critical.

This comes as the Secretary of State’s office was hit with a major scandal right before the 2024 General Election where non-citizens were registered to vote.  First it was 300 that were discovered, then it was over 1,000, now it is over 50,000 that have been called into question.

That election scandal follows the resignation of the prior Secretary of State Shemia Fagan who resigned over several ethical controversies.
