Making Portland Affordable for Families

Today the Oregonian editorialized: “Between now and early 2009, when a new mayor is sworn in, [Mayor Tom] Potter should focus on distilling the vision that originally animated him, of creating a more child-friendly city.”

“Like many big cities, Portland is in danger of becoming a playground””for adults”¦.

“Perhaps the most difficult question anyone considering the race [for mayor] must answer is exactly what he or she will do to promote affordable housing in Portland. That’s critical to keeping families here, and to keeping neighborhoods strong.”

Would a discussion of “affordable housing” include zoning regulations and the Urban Growth Boundary, which contribute to raising the prices of homes and lots in Portland? Discussion welcome here.
