The Wildfire Funding Workgroup made a presentation to the Joint Ways & Means Subcommittee on Public Safety this morning and it invoked both taking the people’s Kicker refund and a brand new bottle tax..

Their plan included raising more money *** not from the bonus $300 million that just arrived in the recent revenue forecast *** but rather through raiding the people’s Kicker Income Tax Refund.  The plan says “one-time use to jump start wildfire funding”.   They plan calls for stealing $1.8 billion of the people’s Kicker Income Tax Refund.  Remember, this kicker is built from over-collected surplus tax dollars that taxpayers paid and must be returned to the people who paid it as enshrined in our Constitution.   Notice the irony that the politicians feel compelled to fund wildfires funding through surplus funds and not through the 20% budget increase they passed during the last session.

The other plan is to put a bottle tax on bottles.   They do not call it a tax but rather a non-refundable deposit.   If it is not a tax, then where does the money come from?   The plan explains it this why, “Bottle bill adjustment.  Increase the bottle bill deposit to include a non-refundable portion for wildfire funding”

You can see their Kicker theft and bottle tax plan here.
