House Republican Leader Christine Drazan (R-Canby) released the following statement on the advancement of Senate Bill 5516, which provides $11.4 billion to the State School Fund, the highest amount the state has allocated to fund schools.

This is over $1 billion more than the previous biennium’s amount despite student test scores below the national average, one of the lowest graduation rates in the nation, and one of the highest rates of chronic absenteeism in the nation.

For years I have been a strong proponent of fully funding our schools, but the data shows that our schools are not adequately meeting the needs of our kids,” said Rep. Drazan. “We must reduce the regulatory burden on our schools and dramatically reform public education to give more options – and return more control – to the families of students who are not getting the education they deserve.
