Stolen steam shovel crashes bank, steals ATM

Two men were arrested in Clackamas County for stealing an excavator and using it to tear into a bank to steal the ATM machine.

This fits the pattern of recent vehicles used as battering rams to break into businesses.

Clackamas County press release, “The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Portland Police Bureau, has made two arrests in the June 23, 2025, theft of cash from an ATM drive-through using a stolen excavator in Clackamas. On Friday, July 11, 2025, deputies arrested Matthew Evan Armour, 32, while he was leaving the parking lot of an apartment complex in Happy Valley as detectives were executing a search warrant in the complex related to the investigation. Armour was booked into Clackamas County Jail on charges including Felony Criminal Conspiracy, Aggravated Theft I, Criminal Mischief I, Theft I, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and a parole violation out of Multnomah County. He is being held on $60,000 bail.The following morning, on Saturday, July 12, 2025, Portland Police Bureau officers assisted CCSO by locating and arresting Kevin Owen Miller, 51, in the area of SE 52nd Avenue and SE Holgate Street in Portland. Miller had an outstanding arrest warrant related to this investigation on charges of Aggravated Theft I, Criminal Mischief I, Theft I, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. Miller is currently being held at the Multnomah County Detention Center, pending transport to the Clackamas County Jail.Approximately $58,660 in cash was stolen during the June 23 heist. “
