Lars Larson: Gerrymandering depends on eye of beholder

The Northwest Nonsense

When Oregon Republicans walked out of a legislative session to block legislation they knew their voters opposed, they were first condemned and then legally forbidden to run for office again.

But when Texas Democrats fled more than a thousand miles, on a private jet, to block congressional redistricting, they got applause…at least from fellow liberals.

Gerrymandering, they shout.  Every ten years the United States does a census so members of congress can each represent about the same 800-thousand Americans.

When Democrats draw the lines, they claim they’re on the side of the Angels.

When Republicans do it, it’s evil Gerrymandering.

Consider the results here in the Northwest.

Oregon Republicans cast 42 percent of the votes and get 16 percent of the seats in Congress?

Does that sound fair to you?  How about Washington where 20 percent of the seats in Congress go to Republicans but GOP voters cast almost twice that number of votes.

In Massachusetts, home of Senator Fauxcahontas, democrats take the prize.

35 percent Republican voters and zero members in the House of Representatives.

Democrats, soon to become the Democrat Socialist Party, hold double standards or they’d have none at all.

That’s the Rose City Rap.  Join me at noon on KXL for 4 hours of Honestly provocative talk.  I’m Lars Larson
