OREGON CITY, OR — Adam Baker, a longtime public servant, police officer, and respected community advocate, officially announced his candidacy today for Oregon House District 40. With deep roots in the district and years of service in both civic and nonprofit roles, Baker is running to bring practical, people-first leadership to Salem.

“I’m stepping up. Our communities in House District 40 have real tough issues in front of us — We need someone who is ready to do the hard work to solve them,” said Baker. “I’m ready to be a leader on; spiraling cost of housing, driving down homelessness, forcing state government to do their job and pushing back against radical ideologies.”

Baker brings years of experience serving in both nonprofit and civic organizations, where he has built coalitions, managed teams, and tackled real-world problems. As a retired police officer with a deep passion for public service, he has worked on the front lines of community safety and understands the importance of balanced, accountable leadership. He knows firsthand the challenges local families, small businesses, and neighborhoods face in House District 40 — and the urgent need for safe communities and a strong and sustainable economy.

House District 40 includes Oregon City, Gladstone, Johnson City, and parts of unincorporated Clackamas County. The district is widely viewed as competitive, and Baker is already drawing strong support from Republican leaders and grassroots voters alike.

State Representative Vikki Breese-Iverson, former House Republican Leader, praised Baker’s tenacity and work ethic:

“When I was Republican Leader, Adam worked really hard, lead on the issues and we came within 181 votes of a win. I am excited he is jumping back in with both feet, no one can hit the ground running like Adam Baker.”

Baker’s campaign is focused on:

• Community safety through strong support for law enforcement and first responders, while investing in mental health and
addiction recovery services.
• Economic growth driven by supporting small businesses, reducing regulatory burdens, and creating family-wage jobs.
• Affordable and MORE housing with responsible development to keep communities livable and accessible for all.
• Strong schools and educational opportunity from early childhood through career training and college.

“I’m not a career politician — I’m a public servant first and foremost,” Baker added. “The people of this district deserve someone who shows up, listens, and takes action. That’s exactly what I’ll do in Salem.”

Baker will formally kick off his campaign with a launch event later this fall.
