Senate passes gas tax/wage tax. Now what?

Today, the Oregon Senate voted to pass HB 3991.

The battle is not over.

Once the Senate closes their special Legislative session, the public has 90 days to gather some 77,000+ signatures (120,000 is safe goal) in a referendum petition drive.

BUT!!!!

Voters cannot officially start the referendum drive until Governor Kotek has signed the bill.  She has 30-days to sign the bill.

The longer she waits to sign the bill the less time voters have to circulate the petition.

People are working on the details of the proposed referendum petition as we speak (it is an extremely delicate legal matter to do it right) — but everyone must wait upon the Governor.

Remember what this tax does.

It raises gas taxes by 15% (40 to 46 cents)

It raises the transit payroll wage tax by 100% (from .1% to .2%)

It raises all kinds of DMV fees — some by 100%.
