Lars Larson: Big homeless shelter fail

The Northwest Nonsense

Judging by the unrelentingly liberal words of the Daily Dead Fishwrapper, Oregon Live, lots of folks want to pat Portland Mayor Keith Wilson on the back and tell him “attaboy”.
Not me.

Wilson ran on the promise of clearing drug addicted, dangerous and mentally ill homeless off the Rose City’s streets…starting by creating 15-hundred shelter beds by a deadline this week.

The Fishwrap claims Wilson made it happen.

Let’s take a closer look

Hizzoner actually opened 11-hundred beds or so

Wilson then counts almost 400 more as “available on short notice”…meaning they don’t actually exist…but could.

The real bottom line though is…if this is truly an emergency and more beds would solve it, why are many of those beds empty every night?

In some of the shelters, the majority are empty.

If the drug addicted homeless won’t use the beds, you could build a million and not change the situation on the ground.

But the Fishwrapper and its Cartel Media fellow travelers love to sing the praises of those in power, even if they don’t deserve it.

Consider that Metro Portland has spent more than two billion of your dollars in the last 3 years and the homeless problem is bigger than ever.

That’s the Rose City Rap. Join me at noon on KXL for 4 hours of Honestly provocative talk. I’m Lars Larson
