Oregon State Representative Ed Diehl, one of the Chief Petitioners to the historic gas tax referendum, is announcing a run for Governor.  He told The Oregonian, “There’s incredible momentum with this referendum, I don’t think it’s a one-off thing. I think it’s a movement, and I feel compelled to do this.”   An official announcement is expected to come on Wednesday night.

Representative Ed Diehl was the chief designer of the grassroots arm of the signature drive campaign, which helped raised a quarter million signatures in just 38 days — which is a record.  By mobilizing thousands over the past few months during the petition campaign, he has an army of active, enthusiastic and ready-to-go volunteers.

Representative Diehl is scheduled to speak at the Western Liberty Network on January 31st where other Oregon gubernatorial candidates are planning to attend, such as Danielle Bethel (Republican), David Medina (Republican),  Matt Rowe (Libertarian) and Chris Dudley, who is rumored to be running.   The program is being reset to provide a panel debate.

We previously explained the unique influence Ed Diehl has in Oregon;

“Our in-house internet tools (OregonWatchdog and OregonCatalyst) cite his articles and floor speeches as the most clicked and re-posted of any Oregon elected official.   Simply put, the data showed Rep. Diehl as the most effective political communicator among any elected official in Oregon, which helped super-size the referendum campaign from the start.  Oregon has a new voice with Rep. Diehl, and it is going to open up new doors of opportunity for our movement”

This unique influence Diehl has will make him a formidable challenger in the 2026 Oregon Governor’s race.
