Nancy Guthrie Is Missing

On February 1, 2026, Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC newsreader Savannah Guthrie, went missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona. And that is the last verifiable fact we know.

However, it has been wall-to-wall coverage on every major televised news source in America and probably much of Europe. And what have we learned from that coverage? Nothing, nada, zip, zilch. All we have is twenty-four hours a day of non-stop speculation, gossip, and innuendo ad nauseam.. And every major network has their whole team of newsreaders engaged in the same speculation, gossip and innuendo – none worse than Jesse Watters of FOXNews. Apparently Mr. Watters thinks that raising the volume of his voice to that shrill, intense, unrelenting “mom-voice” that lectured us all when we were children adds gravitas to his speculation. He’s wrong. It just makes him loud and still wrong.

This has become yet another media self-indulgence. It rivals Hollywood which likes nothing better than a story about itself. Here, it is one of the mainstream media’s own and so everything is fair game. Intentionally or not, the coverage has thus far impugned Ms. Guthrie’s son-in-law, an Uber driver, the Pima County Sheriff, the landscapers, food delivery carriers, and an unidentified white van driver. And yet there is not a single verifiable fact linking any of them to whatever occurred. According to the gossip and speculation, Ms. Guthrie is alive or dead, she was kidnapped for ransom or she is a victim of a home invasion gone bad. She is being held in Mexico or she is being held in Tucson. Family members are involved or not. It is so bad, so without fact, that if you haven’t heard a rumor about what is occurring just start it yourself and it will be all over the news in less than twenty-four hours.

And what is the most disgusting thing about all of this is that the literally hundreds of kidnappings and/or home invasions gone wrong pass without mention or speculation or even facts, while Ms. Guthrie’s misadventure is reported breathlessly for days on end solely because she is the daughter of a media darling. They ought to be ashamed for their slavish attention in this instance while ignoring all the rest.

So what has happened to Ms. Guthrie? I don’t know and neither do they. But this forced feeding of drivel by the mainstream media is causing me to care less.
