Politicians win in court. Gas tax vote moved to May

Last week the liberal politicians and Governor Tina Kotek quickly passed SB 1599 which moved the gas tax referendum election from the November election (when most people vote) to the May election (when most people do not vote).

The three gas tax referendum Chief Petitioners, Senator Bruce Starr, Representative Ed Diehl and Jason Williams of the Taxpayers Association of Oregon filed a lawsuit to stop this unconstitutional election swap.  A Marion County judge held a timely trail and just today sided with Governor Kotek and the politicians.   Ironically, within 24 hours of the judges ruling and within about 7 days since SB 1599 passed, the deadline for voter pamphlet arguments are due (Thursday 5pm) on the gas tax showing how undemocratic and ramrodded everything has been.

The election swap was despite a quarter million referendum petitions signers signing the petition with the November election date on it clearly seen and clearly in bold.   Jason Williams of the Taxpayers Association shows off the petition at a recent press conference.
