Portland eyes road tax on water bill (you can testify)

The proposed Portland Transportation Utility Fee (TUF) is scheduled for a hearing and consideration by the new Finance & Governance (Committee of the Whole) on April 2, 2026.

The road fee is a $12 monthly tax on your water bill. 

This $12 monthly road fee is on top of the 10-cent city gas tax that Portlanders pay at the pump for roads and the $112 Multnomah car fee (2/y) that alos goes to roads..

– Portland City Hearing Date: Thursday April 2, 2026.
– Action: Committee members will review the ordinance and resolution to establish the TUF and a Street Damage Restoration Fee.
– Final Vote: If the committee moves the proposal forward, a full City Council vote could occur the following week.
