Lars Larson: Education news just got even worse

The Northwest Nonsense

Oregon lawmakers not only screw up education with bad choices, they seem to hunt for ways to make the plight of children worse, by design.

Consider that the Beaver State now ranks as one of the top education spending states in America…higher than even New York and California.

And Oregon now produces K12 education results WORSE than nearly all of the 50 states…58 if you’re an Obama voter.

Then, in August 5 years ago, the two-thirds majority Democrats who control the legislature and every statewide elected office voted to drop reading, writing and math as requirements to graduate.

When you hear corrupt Governor Tina Kotek brag about her high graduation rates take that into account. It’s like getting a Blue Ribbon for crossing the finish line in a race everybody wins…while everybody loses.

The latest brainstorm from Oregon’s top school officials…eliminate the law that makes attendance in school mandatory for all children.

Uh, duh! If you ain’t in class, howya gonna learn?

A full one third of Oregon school kids are listed as “chronically absent”, 75 percent higher than the rest of America.

Changing the law means Oregon educators can ignore that problem too, and still keep their fat paychecks and generous pensions…while the kids get the short end of the stick.

That’s the Rose City Rap. Join me at noon on KXL for 4 hours of Honestly provocative talk. I’m Lars Larson
