A good soul passed. Lost his fight to fix Death Tax

Eugene’s model citizen, John Quilter, passed away recently.  He served his country by enlisting in the Navy and supporting his community by being a local arts benefactor.  He had a dream of eliminating Oregon’s Death Tax –one of the nation’s last remaining 12 states daring to have one.  When he talked with us, he always had many stories on how Oregon’s death tax has hurt people he knew.  A death tax is punishing to grieving families at the worst time.

The Taxpayers Association was involved in collecting signatures for the Abolish Death Tax petition, but the coalition campaign effort did not gather enough signatures to make the July deadline (whihc is extremely difficult).  Someday, Oregon’s Death Tax will be reformed, and it is sad that this good soul will not be here to witness it.   It is sad that his family will be hit by this cruel and unforgiving tax.
