After IP 28 fails … it may return

Two election cycles ago, the petition to ban hunting, fishing (even rodent control), failed to make the ballot.  This election cycle the campaign tried a second time and raised over 140,000 signatures.  They narrowly lost due to poor signature verification.

The IP 28 campaign issued this statement, “Given the results of the signature verification process, 2026 will not be the year that Oregonians vote on protecting animals from being killed. If our campaign continues to grow, as it has since 2020, then such a vote may come to fruition in a future election cycle… we encourage anyone who wants to be part of that movement to join us.”

This is a subtle hint that if the resources are still there, they will likely try again to ban hunting and fishing in Oregon.
