Student sex story assignment was part of curriculum

As previously reported, a Eugene-based Churchill High School teacher assigned students to write “write a short story of a paragraph or two. This story is a sexual fantasy that will have NO penetration of any kind or oral sex (no way of passing an STI). You will choose 3 items (romantic music, candles, massage oil, feather, feather boa, flavored syrup, etc.) to use in your story. Your story should show that you can show and receive loving physical affection without having sex.”

KATU-2 reports that this teacher pulled the assignment from the School’s curriculum textbook.

KATU-2 says, “According to 4J Superintendent Andy Dey, the assignment given to CHS students was “pulled directly from the Our Whole Lives Sexuality Education for Grades 10-12, page 90.”Our newsroom received photocopies of pages 90-91 from Family Watch International (FWI), an organization that reviews sexuality education programs for parents and policy makers.The activity described on those pages is different from the assignment given at Churchill.On p. 90 of “Our Whole Lives Sexuality Education for Grades 10-12,” the authors describe a group activity called “Sexy Safe Fantasy.”The key distinction between the “Sexy Safe Fantasy” activity and the “Fantasy Story” assignment at CHS is that the former is designed specifically as a group activity, which allows for a measure of anonymity, while the latter is an individual writing assignment turned in with the student’s name.”

Fox News reports, ” ‘If an adult male asked my daughter to share her sexual fantasies with him, I would be livid and be going to the police. No teacher has any business asking this of a child,’ one parent said. One of the parents concerned about the assignment, Katherine Rogers, said students in the class felt “mortified, awkward and creeped out.”… The OWL curriculum is utilized by many districts across the state and is endorsed by the Oregon Department of Education,” she said.”
