$4B in Kicker Refunds not claimed yet

KOIN-TV reports “…more than 950,000 taxpayers have claimed nearly $1.6 billion of the available kicker credit. The Oregon Department of Revenue expects another 1.2 million returns to be filed, which means that more than $4 billion in the surplus remains to be claimed.”

Our office gets calls from people who were expecting a Kicker check in the mail, as had been the custom years ago.  But, politicians changed the law by eliminating Kicker checks sent in the mail and instead made citizens request their kicker refund by claiming it on their taxes.   We also get calls from people who filed their own taxes and missed the section on the kicker.  As taxes get more complicated, people make more mistakes.
