Kamala Harris Is Unqualified to be President

I hate to start a column with a disclaimer but given the hostile environment of this year’s presidential election I feel compelled – again. I am a conservative. I have been a conservative since I was first eligible to vote. I am now eighty years old and I have never varied in my political philosophy. I registered as a Republican in Montana because I was a huge fan of Sen. Barry Goldwater who had just lost to President Lyndon Johnson – one of the genuine sleaze ball politicians of his time. And while I voted for Democrats initially based on personal knowledge of the kind of person they were – a benefit of being born, raised, educated and practicing law in a small state like Montana – after we moved to Oregon I never thereafter voted for a Democrat. Try as a I might I could not find a conservative that was allowed to run as a Democrat and likewise Colorado and Arizona where we have lived and worked. And so I continued to register as a Republican until 2022 in Arizona. I changed my registration from Republican to Non-affiliated simply because the Republicans demonstrated their on-going wish for irrelevancy based on their candidate selections – a feat they are repeating again this election cycle with many of the same candidates – and their endless focus of voter fraud which while it probably existed, they could not prove that it did – at least in sufficient volume to overturn the results.*

I do all of this so that those who dismiss criticism of the Democrat nominee as highly partisan are just as mistaken about that criticism as they are that their nominee is qualified in any sense of the word to be President of the United States. She is, as Tyrus** said, and a paraphrase: Kamala Harris is a beautiful Black woman . . . [long pause] . . . who is wholly unqualified to be President of the United State.

But more to the point, I am not a fan of former President Donald Trump. I supported former Ambassador to the United Nations, and Governor Nikki Haley (R-SC). And not a day has passed since that I do not shake my head in disbelief that we ignored a quality candidate in order to bring about a race between the megalomaniac Mr. Trump and the cognitively challenged President Joe Biden and his peculiar brand of family corruption. While the Democrats had no one who could raise a challenge – with the exception of the lizard-like Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), the Republicans had a rich field of demonstrably competent choices including Ms. Haley, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) who proved his competency once again in the face of back-to-back hurricanes, and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC).

But the prospect of a race between Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden was made even more intolerable when Former President Barack Obama (D), former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-C), former Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton (D-sore loser) and a whole network of Democrat insiders conspired to force Mr. Biden from the race and install Ms. Harris as the Democrat nominee. It was done without a single primary vote being cast in favor of Ms, Harris and it was done in one of the most clandestine and opaque, backroom deal making by the Democrat elites and their major donors as ever has been experienced in modern history.

Think about it. One week before the devastating debate between Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden, Democrat insiders were so sure that Ms. Harris was an albatross around Mr. Biden’s neck that they were openly discussing ways to remove her from the ticket without offending the Black community – they settled on the idea that Ms. Harris would need an appointment to a big job (appointment to the United States Supreme Court) and a replacement with another woman of color – one with a list of real accomplishments.. She was generally perceived as the worst vice-president in history and a failure at every thing she attempted. Her penchant for word salads in response to any question for which she did not have a teleprompter response were legendary, Add her startling cackle at the end of nonsense answers (much in the nature of young girls giggling as a means of flirting) added to her troubling presence. Were Ms. Harris cast by Hollywood as white – she would have been an early version of Goldie Hawn on Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In comedy show.

Look, Ms. Harris is not an empty headed bimbo. Well at least I don’t think she is. But she has a long history of failing to do the necessary homework in order to participate in discussions of the critical issues of the day. So evident is this that even as Vice-president, her Democrat handlers basically kept her from situations where everything was not scripted on a teleprompter. On those rare instance when she went off script, her ignorance was on full display. It is the reason that they blocked unscripted interviews, pushed her to safe venues like her sorority sisters gatherings, and allowed everyone else to “explain” her views, opinions and plans to the press corps – giving her immediate deniability if one of those proved to be unpopular as many were. It is the reason that she quickly embraced positions that she had previously attacked – building a barrier on border, no income taxes on tips, etc. Nobody in politics has been as carefully staged as Ms. Harris and yet at every turn where she moves off script, where she is surprised by a question, or when one simply blows by her because she didn’t do the work, she resorts to the word salad and the insane cackle.

At this moment the world is in a very dangerous position – the war in Ukraine, the threats of Communist China against Taiwan and smaller nations surrounding the South China Sea and most importantly the escalating battle between Israel and the Muslim Terrorists financed and directed by Iran. Ms. Harris has no experience, no demonstrable skills, no critical thoughts and most importantly no solutions. She simply is in over her head. In short, she is dangerously ignorant. And yet the Democrats and progressives persist by continuously noting that Ms. Harris would be “historical” as the first woman and the first woman of color to be President of the United States. Really? Is that the measure of being President? Is that so important that you would put a person so devoid of comprehension into the role of the most powerful person on Earth.

In contrast, Mr. Trump has actually had a history of confronting Russia, Iran, China and other hostile powers and demonstrated that he can find a path to reduced tensions and protect America’s interests. You have to remember that virtually every thing that his opponents have said about how Mr. Trump would conduct the nation’s affairs are speculation built on bitter hated by the Democrats who have lost to him – think of the Russia, Russia, baloney. His braggadocio and incessant whining about the 2020 election are another thing but they have not effected his ability to manage the job as President.

So contrary to what the Democrats say, Mr. Trump has no intention of doing away with Social Security, Medicare, or welfare payments. He will not impose a nationwide ban on abortion. He will not surrender Ukraines’s sovereignty and he will not invade California – although the latter may be a good idea. If the people who believe such nonsense were ever to read the Constitution they would discover that all of that inflammatory speculation about what Mr. Trump might or might not do is pure unadulterated bat guano because we have a Congress and a Constitution and no one can act unilaterally – as Mr. Biden has discovered as he tried to buy votes by forgiving student debt.

Okay, you hate Mr. Trump as a person. I get that. In fact I would not deny that he is not a person for your children to emulate. But don’t let a personality get in the way of competence. Much like any contest, don’t make perfect the enemy of good.

As I noted in a January 4, 2024, column relating to the state of presidential campaign:

“Well, enough said. The country is in desperate need of an adult to serve as President. We don’t have someone as the likely nominee for either party that fits that description and it is high time we did. But make no mistake if, in fact, it comes to down to Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump I intend to vote unapologetically from Mr. Trump. Continuation of Mr. Biden will sacrifice democracy to Kakistocracy and idiocracy.”

And now that it has come down to Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump is double down on that statement. I don’t like Mr. Trump but I will vote for him in November. Electing Ms. Harris will further idiocracy.

*Because of the very nature of secret ballots proving fraud after it leaves the hands of the voter is difficult to prove. The Democrats know that and it is the reason that they have supported vote-by-mail because there is unlimited, unsupervised opportunities to alter the results – substituted ballots, ballot destruction, ballots voted in other people’s names, etc. Voter identification and an end to vote by mail will return the equilibrium. Really, which ignorant Republicans thought that sending a ballot – whether requested or not – to every person registered to vote would not create a plethora of real ballots floating around to the delight of those who would corrupt or election process.
