The Legislature is woefully behind schedule on having hearings for their basic bills they plan to pass.   Including in that gridlock and delay has been the lack of a formal plan on how to pay for the transportation budget — despite billions from Biden’s infrastructure bill to Oregon and having the nation’s 10th highest gas tax.  Then there is a billion dollar ODOT budget error mistake.

The rumor in the Capitol is that the leading plan will be a 20-cent gas tax increase combined with various DMV fee increases.  Already many DMV fees were recently doubled.  inc

A 20-cent gas tax would be crushing since Oregon already pays more for gas than most states.

Check out below two charts showing how Oregon’s high gas taxes drive up costs that other states do not share:

The 20-cent gas tax increase is less than the previous ODOT modeling of a 35-cent gas tax increase.

These prices show that an Oregon 20-cent gas tax is way too much.
